CarGurus Analysis: 2015 Subaru Legacy
overall

Summary
With 522 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,869.00, 28.5% of 2015 Subaru Legacies for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2015 Subaru Legacy 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
59.6% of 2015 Legacy models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2015 Subaru Legacy stands out as a redesigned sedan that is bigger, better looking, and more generously appointed than before. Its styling is described as vanilla-flavored, but the tradeoff is a larger interior and nicer accommodations, which make it feel more focused on everyday comfort than on flash. That shift gives the car a clear identity: it is a practical family sedan that aims to be more spacious and more polished without losing its Subaru character.
At the same time, the 2015 Legacy is presented as a car that may have sacrificed some appeal in the translation. The driving impression is less enthusiastic than its improved size and presentation might suggest, and the summary notes that something has been lost for the enthusiast driver. Even so, owner feedback points to strengths that matter to many buyers, including safety, reliability, confident performance in various weather conditions, smooth power delivery, and an impressive sound system. A few drivers did note limited acceleration, which is worth keeping in mind for shoppers who want stronger passing power.

This was our 3rd legacy. Wonderful car! Great in inclement weather. The legacy kept us safe and unharmed in an accident. Would recommend to anyone wanting a safe, reliable car with some nice features at a fair price.

Reviewed a 2015 Subaru 2.5i AWD on Oct 2, 2014
I just purchased the 2015 Legacy 2.5i with black cloth interior, winter package and a dealer package. The reviews say it looks plain but I love its classic looks. I test drove the 2015 impreza (sucks), seen the sti and wrx (ugly) and decided on the legacy which is much roomier, quiet, and better looking. Theres more power and better mileage than the 2013-2014 model too! Not to mention decreased cabin noise. after 2,000 miles im still loving it.

| Year-Round High | $10,877.07 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $10,887 |

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 527 listings available, which suggests you have a decent amount of inventory to compare. If you find a listing below $10,101.77, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2015 Subaru Legacy a good car?
Yes — the 2015 Subaru Legacy earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise its safety features, reliability, and performance in various weather conditions. They also highlight smooth power delivery and an impressive sound system, while the overview frames it as a practical family sedan with a larger interior and nicer accommodations. That combination makes it a strong fit if you want everyday comfort, all-weather confidence, and a well-rounded feature set. The market also shows 27.9% good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2015 Subaru Legacy reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to reliability, dependability, and trouble-free ownership, including one owner noting minimal maintenance needs despite high mileage. The expert review also describes it as a cost-effective choice and says it should serve owners well over time. Subaru’s all-wheel-drive setup and the car’s generally smooth, confidence-inspiring character reinforce that impression.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by prior use.
What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Legacy?
At 59.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision or shows signs of uneven wear. Focus on overall condition, because the best examples will stand out not just on paper but in how cleanly they present and how well the features work. If you’re comparing multiple listings, give extra weight to cars with complete service records and no signs of deferred maintenance.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Base 2.5i models have a full suite of power accessories, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and smartphone integration, but they ride on 17-inch steel wheels with plastic wheel covers. The Premium model adds aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat with heated front seats, and voice-command capability. The Limited models add 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, a blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
- Powertrain: Every Legacy 2.5i uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine making 175 hp with a Lineartronic CVT. Subaru’s Active Torque Split AWD system with Active Torque Vectoring is standard, and the setup is tuned more for comfort and stability than quick acceleration.
- Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight system includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models.
- Infotainment: The Starlink system uses a 7-inch color touchscreen and includes Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, HD Radio, satellite radio, Internet radio apps, and available navigation. It also supports voice interaction and has a polished interface.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.5-liter powertrain is rated at 26 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined. The review also notes a disappointing real-world average of 23.4 mpg.
Which 2015 Subaru Legacy trim should I buy?
The 2015 Subaru Legacy is offered in 4 trim levels: 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, 2.5i Limited, 3.6R Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The 2.5i gives you the essentials, but it rides on steel wheels with plastic covers and skips the upgraded comfort and convenience features found higher up.
- Sweet-spot trim: The 2.5i Premium is the best value if you want heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and a power driver’s seat without jumping all the way to the Limited.
- Premium/top trim: The 2.5i Limited is the most appealing all-around choice if you want leather, heated rear seats, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and the premium audio system.
- Off-road trim: The 3.6R Limited is the choice if you want the more powerful 6-cylinder engine, but it is not the most practical pick for typical daily driving.
For safety-minded shoppers, the Limited models get the blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert, while Premium makes that feature optional.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Subaru Legacy?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 527 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 59.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,101.77, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2015 Subaru Legacy's resale value?
The current average of $10,836 sits slightly below last year's $10,887.
That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable, which is helpful if you plan to resell later. A steady price pattern can make it easier to estimate future value, especially when the model year is already established and inventory remains available. Strong owner satisfaction also helps support demand when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2015 Subaru Legacy safe?
The IIHS gave the Legacy top marks in all crash tests, and the car easily meets Top Safety Pick requirements.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Subaru’s EyeSight suite includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-departure warning, and it operates through two windshield-mounted cameras. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models. The main caveat is that some of the most useful safety tech is not standard on every trim, so you’ll want to verify equipment carefully on any used listing.
Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2015 if:
- 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 59.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2015 brings a redesigned cabin with a larger interior, nicer accommodations, and standard all-wheel drive.
Consider the 2014 if:
- At $8,895, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $10,836 average.
- It is a practical family sedan with strong fuel economy, safety, comfort, quality, and harsh-weather capability.
The bottom line: If you want the newer, more spacious, better-equipped Legacy with strong owner satisfaction, the 2015 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front and you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2015’s refinement, the 2014 is the value-oriented alternative.
