What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Legacy?

At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior body damage or repair work. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and whether the car’s safety and convenience features are functioning as expected. Because this model is often chosen for comfort and all-weather confidence, you’ll want to make sure the example you’re considering still feels solid, quiet, and well cared for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Base 2.5i models include a full suite of power accessories, a rear-view camera, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, smartphone integration, and 17-inch steel wheels with plastic wheel covers, while Premium adds aluminum wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, an 8-way power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and voice-command capability. Limited trims add 18-inch alloy wheels, leather upholstery, heated rear seats, blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert, and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, while the 3.6R Limited brings a more powerful 6-cylinder engine and Xenon headlamps.
• Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 175 hp, a Lineartronic CVT, and standard all-wheel drive with Active Torque Split and Active Torque Vectoring. The review emphasizes smooth, stable driving more than quick acceleration, and it notes EPA combined fuel economy of 30 mpg for this powertrain.
• Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight system includes adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, and lane-departure warning. Blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard on Limited models and optional on Premium models.
• Infotainment: The Starlink system uses a 7-inch color touchscreen and includes Bluetooth hands-free calling and music streaming, HD Radio, satellite radio, and smartphone-linked apps. It also supports navigation, and the interface is described as responsive and easy to use.

• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.

What is the 2015 Subaru Legacy's resale value?

The current average of $10,659 sits slightly above last year's $10,637.

That small increase suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is usually a good sign if you plan to resell later. A steady price pattern can help you estimate future value more confidently, especially if you buy at or below the current average. Well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones because shoppers in this segment tend to reward condition and ownership history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

One caveat is that the NHTSA had not yet tested this model year at the time of the review.

Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2015 brings a bigger cabin, nicer accommodations, and standard all-wheel drive.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $8,975, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $10,659 average.
• It emphasizes practicality, comfort, safety, and value in a way that may suit budget-focused shoppers.

The bottom line: If you want the more refined, better-equipped Legacy with a stable market and strong owner satisfaction, the 2015 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2014 is the smarter value alternative and still delivers the Legacy’s core strengths.
