Is the 2018 Lexus LS a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Lexus LS earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

The overview also points to a polished, composed character that blends comfort with performance, which fits buyers who want a large luxury sedan that feels special rather than merely plush.

The main trade-offs are the polarizing design and the unintuitive technology. That matters most if you want a luxury sedan that is easy to use every day as well as impressive to drive.

With a moderate market verdict and 35.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop carefully without rushing.

Is the 2018 Lexus LS reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Drivers describe it as a strong value with reliability, and the broader feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience backed by long-term confidence. The expert notes also emphasize Lexus’s reliability-focused reputation and customer-service approach.

The cost-effectiveness notes add that the LS delivers a lot of equipment for the money, which can help reduce the feeling of ownership risk if you buy a well-kept example. For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is choosing a car with incomplete maintenance history or hidden wear from prior use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Lexus LS?

At 62.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or a long list of luxury features that can be expensive to sort out. Focus on condition, electronics, and evidence of consistent maintenance, since the LS’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been cared for.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The F Sport trim adds a more aggressive look with gray 20-inch wheels, a blacked-out grille, reshaped air intakes, and a cabin that is still luxurious but tuned more toward the driver. The regular LS 500 can be optioned with more exotic interior materials and finishes, so you should compare equipment carefully if you want the most upscale feel.
• Powertrain: The LS 500 uses a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 416 horsepower and a 10-speed automatic, with rear- or all-wheel drive. The hybrid LS 500h adds two electric motors and a lithium-ion battery for a different efficiency-focused setup.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ comes standard with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, auto high beams, and blind-spot monitoring. Lexus Safety System+ A adds active steering for semi-autonomous highway control, front cross-traffic alert, and road-sign detection.
• Infotainment: The tech suite includes a 360-degree camera system that can automatically pan around the vehicle, an onboard owner’s manual with videos, custom route programming, and an optional 24-inch head-up display. The 23-speaker Mark Levinson stereo is also a standout feature.
• Fuel efficiency: Rear-wheel-drive models are rated at 19 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. The AWD version drops to 18/27, while the hybrid improves to 25/33 in rear-wheel-drive form and 23/31 with AWD.

Which 2018 Lexus LS trim should I buy?

The 2018 Lexus LS is offered in 2 trim levels: LS 500 and LS 500 F Sport.

Here's the short version:

• LS 500: This is the better-value choice if you want the core LS experience with the twin-turbo V6, strong acceleration, and the full luxury-car feature set without paying extra for the sportier hardware.
• LS 500 F Sport: Choose this if you want the sharper handling setup, the more aggressive appearance, and the driver-focused tuning that makes the LS feel more athletic. It is the right pick if you care more about road feel than maximum comfort.

The safety package is strong across the lineup, but the more advanced Lexus Safety System+ A features require extra spending.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Lexus LS?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 224 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.67% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 62.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $37,404, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Lexus LS's resale value?

The current average of $37,604 sits slightly below last year's $39,037.

That tells you the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also mean slower appreciation if you plan to sell later. For a future seller, the key is to preserve condition and documentation so your car stands out in a market where buyers have choices.

The LS’s strong value proposition and luxury content can help support demand, especially if the car has been well maintained and presents cleanly. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Lexus LS safe?

The 2018 Lexus LS has not been tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety nor the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System+ comes standard with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, auto high beams, and blind-spot monitoring. Rear-side thorax airbags are also standard, and Lexus Safety System+ A adds active steering for semi-autonomous highway control, front cross-traffic alert, and road-sign detection.

Should I buy a 2018 Lexus LS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 35.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 62.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.67% compared with last year.
