CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Lexus LS
overall

Summary
With 208 currently listed for sale and an average price of $38,914, 36.1% of 2018 Lexus LS models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Lexus LS 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
68.3% of 2018 Lexus LS models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Lexus LS stands out as Lexus’s fifth-generation flagship sedan, and it aims to push the brand’s luxury formula further with dramatic exterior styling and performance. In CarGurus’ test drive, it came across as a 17-foot-long cruiser that delivers on its promise, with a quiet cabin, premium interior materials, and great handling. That combination gives the LS a distinctive appeal: it is built to feel serene and upscale, yet still engaging enough to separate itself from the usual big luxury sedan experience.
Its strengths are especially clear in the way it balances comfort and driving dynamics. The cabin is a major highlight, and the overall impression is of a car that feels richly finished and carefully executed. At the same time, the design may not be for everyone, and the technology can be unintuitive, which are important drawbacks for buyers to consider. Even so, the 2018 Lexus LS remains appealing for shoppers who want a luxury sedan that emphasizes refinement, strong road manners, and a more expressive personality than many rivals.

Lexus builds cars for long term . In my experiences with lexus, I have found them to be super dependable. But I will give Mercedes the upper hand when it comes to comfort, as lexus seats just aren't comfortable for more than a hour or so.

I absolutely love Lexus. I am on my third Lexus vehicle and second LS. I like the features that the car offers. It may not be as advance as the competition but I feel the LS 500 brings its own flavor and characteristics to the full size car segment that can’t be compared to other flagships. It’s unique in its own way. Pretty much everything that I wanted and needed are in the vehicle. The car is an excellent value. One definitely gets their money’s worth from Lexus products when they take care of it. I was heavily considering the Mercedes Benz S-Class and the Genesis G90 but I couldn’t step away from Lexus after reflecting on my previous ownership, quality and service I’ve experience from the brand. The Lexus standard is one to experience and enjoy!

There are 206 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2018 Lexus LS a good car?
Yes — the 2018 Lexus LS earns a 4.75/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise the LS for its luxurious feel, smooth ride, and strong acceleration. The review summary also points to a stylish design, comfortable interior features, and a blend of power, luxury, and reliability that helps the car stand out.
The trade-offs are worth keeping in mind: the design can be polarizing, and the technology can feel unintuitive. Even so, the LS fits you well if you want a flagship sedan that emphasizes refinement, strong road manners, and a more expressive personality than many rivals. With 35.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to find a compelling offer.
Is the 2018 Lexus LS reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary points to reliability and strong value alongside the LS’s luxury and performance mix, which suggests owners see it as a car they can count on. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Lexus’s reputation for reliability, value, and customer service, reinforcing the idea that this sedan is built for long-term ownership.
Lexus also includes a 10-year suite of safety-connect services, which adds peace of mind for used buyers. For a shopper, the main long-term risk is less about the brand’s reputation and more about making sure the specific car has been maintained well and hasn’t accumulated hidden wear.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Lexus LS?
At 67.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any prior collision. Focus on body alignment, paint consistency, wheel condition, and how the cabin electronics and suspension behave on a test drive. Because this is a luxury sedan with advanced features, you’ll want to make sure everything works as intended before you commit.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The F Sport trim adds a more aggressive look with gray 20-inch wheels, a blacked-out grille, and reshaped air intakes, while the regular LS 500 can be optioned with more exotic interior materials and finishes. The base setup is already lavish, but the higher-spec F Sport is the one that most clearly changes the car’s character.
- Powertrain: The LS 500 uses a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 with 416 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque paired with a 10-speed automatic, and it’s offered with rear- or all-wheel drive. A hybrid LS 500h is also mentioned, with two electric motors, a lithium-ion battery, and 354 combined horsepower.
- Safety package: Lexus Safety System+ is standard and includes automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also standard, while Lexus Safety System+ A adds active steering for semi-autonomous highway control, front cross-traffic alert, and road-sign detection.
- Infotainment: The tech suite includes an onboard owner’s manual with videos, 360-degree cameras that can pan around the vehicle, custom route programming, and an optional 24-inch head-up display. The system is feature-rich, but the interface can feel unintuitive.
- Fuel efficiency: The rear-wheel-drive LS 500 is rated at 19 mpg city and 30 mpg highway, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at 18/27. The hybrid is rated at 25/33 in rear-wheel-drive form and 23/31 with all-wheel drive.

- LS 500: This is the trim to target if you want the core LS experience with the broadest flexibility. It gives you the twin-turbo V6, 10-speed automatic, and the option to add more exotic luxury touches, making it the best-value choice for most shoppers.
- LS 500 F Sport: This is the pick if you care more about sharper handling and a more aggressive look. It adds the sportier exterior treatment and, with the optional F Sport Performance Package, rear-axle steering, active stabilizer bars, staggered summer tires, and variable-ratio steering.

- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.97% compared with last year.

What is the 2018 Lexus LS's resale value?
The current average of $38,825 sits slightly below last year's $39,605.
That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper short-term resale gains if you plan to sell soon. The current pricing also sits within a fairly tight annual range, which points to a relatively stable market rather than a dramatic swing.
If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a better chance of preserving value when it’s time to move on. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Lexus Safety System+ comes standard with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto high beams. Blind-spot monitoring is also standard, and Lexus includes rear-side thorax airbags as standard equipment as well. If you want active steering for semi-autonomous highway control, front cross-traffic alert, and road-sign detection, you’ll need the Lexus Safety System+ A package.
Should I buy a 2018 Lexus LS or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 35.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 67.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.97% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2018 LS delivers a quiet cabin, premium materials, and great handling in a distinctive flagship sedan package.
The bottom line: If you want the newer fifth-generation LS with strong luxury, performance, and value, the 2018 is the better path. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and look for a well-kept example near the low end of the range, but the 2018 stands out as the more compelling choice when you want the updated design and driving character.
