Used 2018 Honda HR-V for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2018 Honda HR-V cost?

Prices have softened 1.06% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,058 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2018 Honda HR-V a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Honda HR-V earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10. Owners consistently praise its comfort, great gas mileage, and user-friendly features, and they also highlight its interior versatility and family-friendly practicality. In use-case terms, it fits you well if you want a city-friendly crossover that feels easy to live with and still offers a more substantial cabin than its footprint suggests. 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Honda HR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Reviews also describe it as reliable, with a smooth ride and a trouble-free feel that makes it appealing for daily commuting. The driving impressions reinforce that dependability theme, with the HR-V described as composed, comfortable, and easy to maneuver in everyday use. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the older powertrain and dated technology can make the vehicle feel less current than rivals, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Honda HR-V?

At 57.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, repair quality, and whether the car’s equipment and safety features match the trim you’re considering. Because this model’s appeal depends heavily on practicality and everyday usability, you’ll want to make sure the cabin, visibility, and electronics all work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base LX has similar alloys in one color, while EX and EX-L trims add two-tone 17-inch wheels. Only EX-L trims come with leather, and the EX-L also offers a broader range of exterior colors.
• Powertrain: A single 1.8-liter 4-cylinder makes 141 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque across all trims. The 6-speed manual is standard on front-wheel-drive LX and EX trims, while all-wheel drive is optional on all trims and pairs exclusively with the CVT.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a multi-angle reversing camera, and optional LaneWatch uses a camera in the right side-view mirror to show the car’s blind spot on the central screen. Forward-collision alert, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and other electronic safety features are not available.
• Infotainment: The system does not support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, response time is slow, and the maps are extremely low resolution. SiriusXM and HD Radio come on the top trim, but the setup still feels dated.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is EPA rated at between 25 and 27 mpg city and 31 and 34 mpg highway.

Which 2018 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2018 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it gives you the HR-V’s core practicality at the lowest price. It has similar alloys in one color and is the trim to consider if you want the most affordable way into the model.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds two-tone 17-inch wheels and keeps the HR-V’s useful everyday character without pushing you into the highest price tier. It also pairs with the standard manual transmission if you want a more engaging setup on front-wheel-drive models.
• EX-L: This is the trim to choose if you want the most upscale feel, since it’s the only one with leather and it offers the widest range of exterior colors. It’s the right pick if you care more about cabin finish and features than minimizing cost.

Safety-wise, the HR-V does not offer forward-collision alert, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, or other electronic safety features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find reasonable options.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,058 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.06% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 57.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,353, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $15,737 sits slightly below last year's $15,906.

That mild decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper resale gains if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you should be better positioned than someone who pays near the top of the range. The HR-V’s practical appeal and steady demand help support future value, especially if you choose a clean, well-kept example.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Honda HR-V safe?

The 2018 Honda HR-V earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side crash tests and four-star ratings for frontal crashes. It scored the top Good rating in four of five crash tests conducted by IIHS, with an Acceptable rating for front side overlap.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda’s standard multi-angle reversing camera is a useful basic feature, and optional LaneWatch adds a camera-based blind-spot view on the central screen. The bigger limitation is that forward-collision alert with auto-braking is not available, which kept it from earning a Top Safety Pick designation.

Should I buy a 2018 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.06% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model is positioned as a less expensive alternative to the popular CR-V, which helps explain its value appeal.

The bottom line: If you want a practical, city-friendly crossover with strong owner satisfaction and a softer used-car price trend, the 2018 HR-V makes sense. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you should focus on the cleanest, best-priced listings and be willing to compare against other years for the right combination of condition and equipment.

How does the 2018 Honda HR-V compare to the 2018 Mazda CX-3?

Our experts score the 2018 Honda HR-V 6.7/10 and the 2018 Mazda CX-3 8/10. The HR-V gives you more listings to shop and a lower average used price, while the CX-3 brings a stronger expert score and slightly better deal share.
