Used 2018 Honda HR-V for Sale near Illinois

How much does the 2018 Honda HR-V cost?

Prices have softened 2.88% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,053 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and trims.

Is the 2018 Honda HR-V a good car?

Yes — the 2018 Honda HR-V earns a 4.5/5 user rating and a 6.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10. Owners consistently praise its comfort, great gas mileage, user-friendly features, interior versatility, and smooth ride, and the overview frames it as a city-friendly crossover with big-car utility and a practical edge for family use. It also fits shoppers who want a compact vehicle that feels useful and well equipped without moving up to a larger SUV. With 32.7% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Honda HR-V reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. The user summary also describes it as a reliable choice, with drivers calling out its trouble-free feel, comfort, and smooth daily commuting manners. On the road, the expert notes reinforce that dependable character by describing the HR-V as composed, comfortable, and easy to maneuver, with a calm, quiet feel on back roads. If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about finding one that has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by years of city use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Honda HR-V?

At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a careful inspection of body panels, paint consistency, and signs of prior repair. Because the HR-V’s appeal is tied to everyday usability, you’ll also want to focus on cabin condition, visibility-related wear, and whether the vehicle feels as tidy and well kept as the listing suggests. A thorough test drive matters too, especially if you want to confirm that the car still feels smooth, quiet, and easy to live with.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX has similar alloys in one color, while EX and EX-L trims get two-tone 17-inch wheels. The EX-L also adds leather, and the top trim brings features like SiriusXM and HD Radio. If you want the best value, the EX is the trim to compare closely against the base model because it adds more visual appeal without jumping all the way to the top.
• Powertrain: A single 1.8-liter 4-cylinder makes 141 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque across all trims. The front-wheel-drive LX and EX can be had with a 6-speed manual, while all-wheel drive is optional on all trims and pairs with the CVT.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes a multi-angle reversing camera, and LaneWatch is optional. Forward-collision alert, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and other electronic safety features are not available, so higher trims do not unlock a full driver-assistance suite.
• Infotainment: The system does not support Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, response time is slow, and the maps are low resolution. The top trim adds Pandora, Aha radio, SiriusXM, and HD Radio, but the setup still feels dated.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy is EPA rated at between 25 and 27 mpg city and 31 and 34 mpg highway. The EX-L is rated at 27/31, and the expert test drive averaged 25 mpg over 300 miles.

Which 2018 Honda HR-V trim should I buy?

The 2018 Honda HR-V is offered in 3 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the entry point, and it keeps the HR-V affordable while still giving you the core utility and the standard 6-speed manual on front-wheel-drive models. It makes sense if you want the lowest price and can live without the extra appearance and comfort upgrades.
• EX: This is the best-value trim to cross-shop because it adds the more appealing two-tone 17-inch wheels and sits in the sweet spot between price and equipment. If you want a nicer look without paying for leather, this is the trim to target.
• EX-L: This is the most upscale version, with leather and the most available convenience and audio equipment. It suits you best if you want the most premium-feeling HR-V and are willing to pay more for it.

The safety setup still centers on the standard reversing camera, with LaneWatch available and no full suite of advanced driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Honda HR-V?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,053 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.88% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 55.7% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,351, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Honda HR-V's resale value?

The current average of $15,457 sits slightly below last year's $15,915.

That decline suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean future resale gains are likely to be gradual rather than dramatic. If you plan to sell later, the HR-V’s value should benefit from its practical reputation and broad shopper appeal, but the current trend shows you should not expect appreciation in the near term. Well-kept examples with strong equipment and clean history should still draw interest from used buyers.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Honda HR-V safe?

The Honda HR-V earns five-star ratings overall from NHTSA, with five-star ratings in side crash tests and four-star ratings for frontal crashes. It scored the top Good rating in four of five IIHS crash tests, with an Acceptable rating for front side overlap, and it is not a Top Safety Pick because it lacks forward-collision alert with auto-braking.

It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda’s standard multi-angle reversing camera is a useful baseline feature, and optional LaneWatch adds a camera-based view of the right-side blind spot. The bigger limitation is that forward-collision alert, blind-spot monitoring, parking sensors, and other electronic safety features are not available, so you should not expect a modern driver-assistance suite here.

Should I buy a 2018 Honda HR-V or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 32.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 55.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.88% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert summary highlights its higher ground clearance, optional all-wheel drive, and more premium cabin, while noting that it sits below the CR-V and Pilot and can be thousands less than the CR-V.

The bottom line: If you want the HR-V’s practical packaging, city-friendly size, and lower used price, the 2018 is a sensible buy. If you’re especially price-sensitive, focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example you can find and use the softer market to negotiate. If you want more advanced tech or safety features, it may be worth considering a newer year instead.

How does the 2018 Honda HR-V compare to the 2018 Mazda CX-3?

Our experts score the 2018 Honda HR-V 6.7/10 and the 2018 Mazda CX-3 8/10. The HR-V is the more practical choice if you want utility, interior versatility, and a lower average used price. The CX-3 brings a stronger expert score, a more efficient city rating, and a slightly better deal share, but it has far fewer listings, so your shopping pool is much smaller.
