CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Honda Civic

Summary
With 195 currently listed for sale near Chicago, IL and an average price of $17,128, 24.1% of 2018 Honda Civics for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Honda Civic 4.71 / 5 stars.
93.8% of 2018 Civic models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Honda Civic stands out because it sits in the 10th generation, a version widely praised for its handling, features, and practicality. It was a major step up in size, with almost as much interior room as an early 2000s Accord, and it offered active-safety features that were rare on small, affordable cars in the late 2010s. For shoppers, that combination of space, efficiency, and everyday usability is a big part of the appeal, and the car’s strong reputation for being fun to drive helps it feel more engaging than many compact rivals.
The hatchback version adds extra utility, with a liftback design and flat-folding rear seats. In 2018, the hatchback was available with two turbocharged powertrains, including a 174-horsepower 1.5-liter turbo in LX, EX, and EX-L trims and a 180-horsepower version in Sport and Sport Touring. Standard equipment on the base LX included automatic climate control, a rear-view camera, a folding rear seat, a four-speaker audio system with a USB port, and a 5-inch infotainment screen, while available features included Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, blind-spot monitors, heated front and rear seats, and a moonroof. Honda Sensing was optional at launch, so buyers should verify whether a given car has it fitted.
There are a few drawbacks to keep in mind. The 2018 Civic hatchback is affected by oil dilution in the turbocharged engines, and the generation also has complaints about air conditioning failures, infotainment glitches, and sticky electric power steering. Consumer Reports rates reliability below average for hatchbacks built before 2020, so condition and maintenance history matter. Even so, the 2018 Honda Civic remains appealing because it blends strong fuel economy, good driving dynamics, and a well-rounded feature set in a package that still feels practical and desirable.

This car is a great value with the rising gas prices and economical 2.0 four cylinder engine I will be saving money at the pump. The safety features alone are something that is needed in this age of self driving cars and people not paying attention on the roads. Have only had this ex version for a few days now but already love it.

How much does the 2018 Honda Civic cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $16,288 |
| Year-Round Low | $15,652 |
| Year-Round High | $16,728 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $16,727 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −2.63% |
Prices have softened 2.63% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,723 listings available, which suggests solid inventory for shoppers comparing prices and conditions.
Is the 2018 Honda Civic a good car?
Yes — owners rate it 4.71/5, which points to strong overall satisfaction. In owner feedback, you’ll see recurring praise for its great value, reliability, and impressive fuel economy, along with positive notes about its safety features and technology. That lines up well with the Civic’s practical, well-rounded appeal for everyday commuting and general use, especially if you want a compact car that feels more polished than many rivals. With 30.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding one that fits your budget.
Is the 2018 Honda Civic reliable?
Owners rate it 4.71/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback highlights the Civic’s reliability and trouble-free ownership experience, and shoppers also commonly point to its dependable nature and strong day-to-day usability. That said, used buyers should still pay close attention to maintenance records and condition, because long-term ownership risk depends heavily on how well a specific car was cared for.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Honda Civic?
At 48.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic. Focus on signs of prior bodywork, uneven panel gaps, warning lights, and evidence of deferred maintenance, since condition matters more when a large portion of the market has accident history. It’s also smart to confirm that the car’s features and equipment work as expected, especially on higher-mileage examples.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Honda Civic?
This is a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting deep discounts on every listing.
- Deal availability: 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,723 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.63% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 48.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,652, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Honda Civic's resale value?
The current average of $16,288 sits slightly below last year's $16,727.
That price movement suggests the market has eased a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key is to buy a well-kept example at a sensible price so depreciation has less room to work against you. Strong condition and documented maintenance matter most when you want to protect value over time.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.71/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2018 Honda Civic or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 30.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 48.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.63% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.71/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2019 if:
- At $17,366, the 2019 costs more than the current year's $16,288 average.
- Honda broadens body-style and engine choices while keeping the Civic’s polished driving feel.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2018 is the stronger starting point because pricing has eased and owner satisfaction remains high. If you’re willing to spend more for a newer model year and broader variety, the 2019 is the better secondary path for buyers who prioritize choice over savings.
