Is the 2017 Toyota Tacoma a good car?

Generally — the 4.2/5 user rating points to a truck that many shoppers feel good about owning. Is the 2017 Toyota Tacoma reliable?

The user feedback repeatedly describes it as reliable, dependable, and a truck you can count on over time. That lines up with the model’s reputation for durability and long-term ownership appeal. For used buyers, the main risk is paying too much for a truck that may have seen hard use, so condition and maintenance history matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Toyota Tacoma?

At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, especially if the truck has been used off-road or for work. Put inspection priority on frame, suspension, and signs of uneven wear, since those can reveal tougher use than the listing photos show. Focus on overall condition and maintenance records so you can separate a clean, well-kept truck from one that has been driven hard.

That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also suggests future sellers may not see rapid appreciation from this point. If you keep mileage reasonable and maintain the truck well, you should be in a better position when it’s time to sell.

Should I buy a 2017 Toyota Tacoma or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 32.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 60% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $23,403, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $25,672 average.
• The 2016 emphasizes proven capability and long-term dependability.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2017 if you want the newer model-year experience and are comfortable paying a bit more for it. If your priority is saving money, the 2016 is the better value path, especially if you find one in strong condition with a clean history.
