How much does the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty cost?

Prices have softened 4.18% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

Is the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty a good car?

Generally — the 4.21/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and our experts give it an 8/10 overall rating. The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

Owners repeatedly praise its power, towing ability, comfort features, and diesel strength. That lines up with the overview: this is a heavy-duty truck built around strength first, but it still brings newer tech that makes ownership easier. Good and great deals account for 28.3% of listings, so you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty reliable?

Owners rate it 4.21/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback highlights reliability, dependable power, and the diesel engine’s strength, which are all encouraging signs for a truck meant to work hard over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Super Duty is built to take a beating and keep moving for hundreds of thousands of miles. Ford’s tech and towing aids can make ownership easier, but used buyers should still focus on maintenance history and overall wear because heavy-duty trucks often see demanding use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

At 67% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a hands-on inspection of body panels, frame areas, and any signs of hard work or towing abuse. Pay close attention to how the truck presents inside and out, since owner feedback mentions some interior concerns as well as power window and steering wheel issues. If you’re shopping a truck that may have spent time on job sites, condition matters as much as mileage.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from XL to XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. The base trim is the most utilitarian, while higher trims add more upscale design and equipment, and the Platinum stands out with a remote tailgate release, unique leather seating design, navigation, and adaptive steering.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 6.2-liter gas V8 or a 6.7-liter PowerStroke turbodiesel V8. The gas engine makes 385 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque, while the diesel makes 440 hp and 925 pound-feet of torque for buyers who need maximum towing strength.
• Safety package: The truck includes massive compound mirrors, a 360-degree camera setup, a front camera for tight parking, a full complement of airbags, traction control, and an SOS post-crash alert system.
• Infotainment: SYNC 3 brings Bluetooth smartphone pairing, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto support, along with easy-to-read menus and strong usability.
• Fuel efficiency: In mixed driving, the diesel returned 15.9 miles per gallon, and you can expect roughly 15 mpg from a diesel-equipped truck in similar use.

Which 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty trim should I buy?

The 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty is offered in 5 trim levels: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum.

Here's the short version:

• XL: This is the work-focused starting point, so it makes sense if you want the core Super Duty capability without paying for extra comfort or luxury features.
• XLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds more everyday usability while staying below the higher-end luxury models.
• Lariat: Choose this if you want a stronger mix of comfort and equipment without jumping all the way to the premium trims.
• King Ranch: This trim is for buyers who want a more upscale, distinctive heavy-duty truck with a richer feature set.
• Platinum: This is the top luxury choice, with the most upscale equipment in the lineup, including remote tailgate release, unique leather seating, navigation, and adaptive steering.

The safety content emphasizes the truck’s mirrors, cameras, airbags, traction control, and SOS post-crash alert system, so even lower trims benefit from a strong practical safety foundation.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 28.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,385 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 67.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $33,091, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty's resale value?

The current average of $33,318 sits slightly below last year's $34,771.

That decline suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more confidently now, but it also means future resale gains may be limited unless you choose a well-kept truck with desirable equipment. Strong demand for capable heavy-duty pickups should still support values, especially for trucks with cleaner histories and the right towing setup. Condition, trim, and maintenance records will matter a lot when it comes time to sell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.21/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty safe?

The 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Its safety equipment centers on large mirrors, a 360-degree camera system, a front camera for tight parking, a full complement of airbags, traction control, and an SOS post-crash alert system. Those features are especially useful on a truck this large, where visibility and maneuvering matter as much as passive protection. The safety content does not call out a major crash-test shortcoming, so the main takeaway is that the truck leans on visibility tech and basic safety hardware rather than a long list of advanced driver-assistance features.

Should I buy a 2017 Ford F-250 Super Duty or consider a different year?

• The expert summary says the 2017 Super Duty is all-new for the year and brings a lot of new tech that makes truck ownership easier.

The bottom line: The 2017 is a strong choice if you want a heavy-duty truck with serious capability, modern towing tech, and a market that currently gives you some negotiating room. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping carefully for cleaner, lower-priced examples near the bottom of the range, but the 2017 remains a compelling buy when capability matters most.
