How much does the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 1.17% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,467 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of trucks to compare.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Yes — it earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Form and function and Technology.

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is aimed squarely at hard work, with a focus on jobsite use rather than everyday commuting. Its appeal comes from combining serious capability with practical convenience, and the expert evaluation backs that up with especially strong marks for form and function and technology.

30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The truck is described as built for demanding work, and the expert evaluation reinforces that it has the kind of capability and practical features that matter in heavy-duty use. The available diesel engine is presented as a major strength, with impressive power and torque, and the truck’s work-focused design suggests it is meant to handle sustained use rather than light-duty errands.

The diesel engine is described as surprisingly quiet, with quick throttle response and strong acceleration, which supports confidence in how it performs under load. The truck also includes practical ownership-friendly touches such as the available side cameras and trailering aids, which can make day-to-day use easier.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a truck built for hard work may have seen demanding service, so condition and maintenance history matter more than mileage alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

At 66.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough inspection of the truck’s body, towing equipment, and cabin controls. Because this model is built for work, it makes sense to focus on wear from hauling, towing, and jobsite use, not just cosmetic condition. If you’re considering a diesel truck, pay close attention to how it starts, idles, and drives under load.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Work Truck trim is the most stripped-down version, with the gas V8, a 4.2-inch color screen, 4 speakers, and a USB port. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, with LT bringing the larger MyLink touchscreen, 17-inch aluminum wheels, heated seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Bluetooth connectivity.
• Powertrain: The standard engine is a 6.0-liter V8 with 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque, while the available 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 makes 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. The diesel is the headline powertrain here, and it is paired with a 6-speed Allison automatic transmission.
• Safety package: The truck includes a reversing camera with active guidelines, side-mirror cameras that cover both sides, and trailering safety equipment such as trailer brake control and the ability to cycle through all the cameras while towing.
• Infotainment: The base system uses a 4.2-inch color screen, while the available 8-inch MyLink touchscreen adds a more user-friendly layout. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are available, and the navigation system can add real-time traffic and weather forecasts.
• Fuel efficiency: In mixed driving, the diesel test truck returned 16.6 mpg.

Which 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is offered in 4 trim levels: Work Truck, LT, LTZ, High Country.

Here's the short version:

• Work Truck: This is the value-first choice if you want the lowest entry price and need a basic heavy-duty truck for work. It gives you the gas V8, the 4.2-inch color screen, 4 speakers, and a USB port, so it makes sense if you care more about capability than comfort.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the larger MyLink touchscreen, 17-inch aluminum wheels, heated seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and Bluetooth connectivity. It is the trim that most clearly balances work use with everyday convenience.
• LTZ: This trim steps up to leather seating, dual-zone automatic climate control, remote start, and more chrome on the mirror caps and door handles. It suits you if you want a more upscale cabin and are willing to pay for it.
• High Country: This is the top-tier trim, with color-matched bumpers, a unique grille design, and 20-inch wheels. It is the right pick if you want the most distinctive appearance and the most premium presentation in the lineup.

The safety setup centers on the reversing camera, side-mirror cameras, and trailering aids, which are useful across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it makes sense to shop carefully and compare listings.

• Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,467 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.17% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.9% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,312, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $30,131 sits slightly below last year's $30,489.

That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now if you plan to keep the truck for a while. For a future seller, the current pricing trend points to steady but not rising value, so condition and equipment will matter a lot when it comes time to resell. Trucks with desirable features and strong maintenance records should still attract buyers, especially in a work-focused segment like this one.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The Silverado HD’s safety equipment centers on a large reversing camera with active guidelines, plus side-mirror cameras that show the blind spots on both sides when you signal. It also includes trailering-focused safety gear such as trailer brake control and the ability to cycle through all the cameras while towing.

That setup is especially useful in a heavy-duty truck with a high seating position, where visibility and trailer awareness matter a lot. The main caveat is that the truck leans heavily on camera-based assistance rather than a long list of advanced driver-assistance features.

Should I buy a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.17% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 stands out for its all-new diesel engine with impressive power and torque, plus practical features like side cameras that make towing and jobsite use easier.

The bottom line: If you want a heavy-duty truck that emphasizes work capability, the 2017 is the right path because it combines strong diesel power with useful convenience features and a market that is currently a bit softer on price. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep shopping the broader market for the best-condition example, but prioritize this year when you want the newer diesel and the work-friendly equipment.
