Used 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 8.62% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,332 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of trucks to compare by trim, cab, and equipment.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Form and function.

It’s built to handle heavy-duty work while still serving as a family commuter, and it offers multiple powertrain options plus easy-to-use technology. The trade-off is that its design may not appeal to everyone, and its value proposition is a concern. One of the main drawbacks is its potentially polarizing design, and another is poor value for money.

The market also shows 29.7% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Silverado 2500HD is presented as a truck that can handle countless roles, from worksite duty to family use, and its straightforward cabin layout supports everyday usability. Its performance notes also point to strong capability, with the diesel powertrain described as punchy and the truck able to tow substantial loads when properly equipped.

The truck’s technology and safety equipment are designed to make ownership easier, including useful camera views and driver-assistance features on higher trims. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a hard-working heavy-duty truck may have seen demanding use, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

At 74.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has towing, hauling, or fleet-use signs. Focus on overall condition, because heavy-duty trucks can hide wear in the suspension, brakes, bed, and interior even when they still look clean on the surface.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Work Truck comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, a V8 engine, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 3.5-inch digital instrument display, while the Custom adds 20-inch aluminum wheels, LED taillights, a body-color split grille bar, and side-mirror cornering lights. The LT adds a chrome grille, upgraded cloth seating, a larger infotainment screen, and a power lift-and-lower tailgate, and it is the trim CarGurus recommends for the best balance of comfort and cost. The LTZ adds leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and remote start, while the High Country adds features such as a spray-on bed liner, front and rear park assist, and a power up-and-down tailgate.
• Powertrain: The Silverado HD offers two 6.6-liter V8s: a standard gas engine with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, and an optional Duramax turbodiesel with 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. Both pair with a 10-speed automatic and can be had with rear-wheel drive or available 4WD with low-range gearing.
• Safety package: The available Safety Package II adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and the Safety Alert Seat. Safety Package I adds front and rear parking sensors plus blind-spot monitoring.
• Infotainment: Work Truck and Custom trims use a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while LT, LTZ, and High Country get an 8-inch touchscreen. Chevrolet also offers a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, standard on LT, LTZ, and High Country and available on Custom and Work Truck.
• Fuel efficiency: In weeklong testing, the truck returned about 17 mpg, and the 36-gallon tank gives it a long driving range between fill-ups.

Which 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is offered in 5 trim levels: Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• Work Truck: This is the most basic choice, but it still gives you a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a V8 engine, and a digital instrument display. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and can live without the nicer cabin touches.
• Custom: This trim adds visual upgrades like 20-inch aluminum wheels, LED taillights, and a body-color grille bar, but it still stays fairly work-focused. It’s a reasonable step up if you want a little more style without moving too far up the price ladder.
• LT: This is the best-value trim because it adds a chrome grille, upgraded cloth seating, a larger infotainment screen, and a power lift-and-lower tailgate while staying close to the Custom in price. If you want the most balanced mix of comfort and equipment, this is the one to target.
• LTZ: This trim brings a more upscale feel with leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and remote start. It suits you if you want a more premium truck and are willing to pay for it.
• High Country: This is the top-end choice, with features such as a spray-on bed liner, front and rear park assist, and a power up-and-down tailgate. It’s the right pick if you want the most convenience and the richest equipment list.

Safety Package I adds front and rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring, while Safety Package II adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and the Safety Alert Seat.

• Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,332 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.62% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $38,562, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $38,671 sits slightly below last year's $42,320.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can help you buy more affordably now but may also limit how much value you recover later. If you plan to resell, the best protection is to buy a well-kept truck with the right equipment and a clean history, because those trucks tend to stay easier to move.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Safety Package II adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and the Safety Alert Seat, while Safety Package I adds front and rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring. The LTZ also improves on the reversing camera with a surround-view camera with trailer views.

Should I buy a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.62% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for its multiple powertrain options and easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $40,128, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $38,671 average.
• It offers more options and multiple body styles.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to spend more for broader choice, the 2021 is the better path for shoppers who want additional configuration flexibility.
