Used 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 8.76% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,429 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Yes — the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.2/10 expert rating. The model scores 10/10 across Performance and Form and function.

It is presented as a do-it-all heavy-duty pickup that can handle worksite duty and family use, and it offers multiple powertrain options along with easy-to-use technology. The trade-offs are clear: its design may be polarizing, and its value is described as poor for the money.

The truck’s straightforward cabin layout and accessible tech make it easier to live with than many heavy-duty pickups, but you are paying a premium for capability and convenience. 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there is some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Silverado 2500HD is framed as a highly capable truck that can take on a wide range of roles, and the expert review emphasizes its strong utility and modern convenience. Its performance content also points to robust powertrain choices and a 10-speed automatic, which supports the impression of a truck built for demanding use.

The available diesel setup adds serious towing strength, and the truck’s weeklong observed fuel economy was about 17 mpg. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that heavy-duty capability and high-option configurations can make repairs and upkeep more expensive if the truck has been worked hard.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

At 74.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has towing or worksite use in its past. Focus on overall condition, signs of heavy wear, and whether the equipment on the truck matches how you plan to use it.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Work Truck comes with a 7-inch touchscreen, a V8 engine, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 3.5-inch digital instrument display, while the LT adds a larger infotainment screen, upgraded cloth seating, and a power lift-and-lower tailgate. The LT is the best-value choice because it adds more comfort without a huge price jump.
• Powertrain: The Silverado HD offers two 6.6-liter V8s: a gas engine with 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, and an available Duramax turbodiesel V8 with 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque. Both pair with a 10-speed automatic and available 4WD with low-range gearing.
• Safety package: Safety Package II adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and the Safety Alert Seat. Safety Package I adds front and rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring.
• Infotainment: Work Truck and Custom trims use a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while LT, LTZ, and High Country get an 8-inch touchscreen. Wireless charging is standard on High Country and available on LTZ, and a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot is standard on LT, LTZ, and High Country.
• Fuel efficiency: In testing, the truck returned about 17 mpg, and the 36-gallon tank gives it long range between fill-ups.

Which 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is offered in 5 trim levels: Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• Work Truck: This is the most basic version, but it still gives you a 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a V8 engine, and a digital instrument display. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and can live without extra comfort features.
• Custom: This trim adds 20-inch aluminum wheels, LED taillights, a body-color split grille bar, and side-mirror cornering lights. It is mainly about appearance and a few convenience upgrades, so it suits you if you want a little more style without moving too far up the price ladder.
• LT: This is the trim CarGurus recommends because it adds a larger infotainment screen, upgraded cloth seating, and a power lift-and-lower tailgate. It is the best-value trim if you want a more comfortable daily experience without jumping into luxury pricing.
• LTZ: This trim brings leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and remote start. It is the right pick if you want a more upscale cabin and plan to spend a lot of time in the truck.
• High Country: This is the top trim and includes features that were optional on the LTZ, such as the spray-on bed liner, front and rear park assist, and the power up-and-down tailgate. It suits you if you want the most fully equipped version and are willing to pay for it.

Safety Package II adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and the Safety Alert Seat.

• Inventory: There are 2,429 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.76% compared with last year.

If you find a listing below $38,429, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $38,429 sits slightly below last year's $42,117.

That decline suggests the truck has become more affordable for buyers, which can make it harder for sellers to command top dollar right now. If you are planning to sell later, the current pricing trend means you may need to be more competitive on condition, mileage, and equipment to stand out.

Well-equipped trucks with desirable features and strong maintenance records should still draw interest, especially because this model year has broad capability and strong utility appeal. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

The Silverado HD comes with a reversing camera, traction control, and a full array of airbags.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Safety Package II adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and the Safety Alert Seat. Safety Package I adds front and rear parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring. The LTZ improves on the reversing camera with a surround-view camera with trailer views.

Should I buy a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

Choose the 2020 if:

• 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 stands out for multiple powertrain options and easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $39,952, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $38,429 average.
• It adds more body-style and configuration flexibility.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2020 is the stronger starting point because prices have eased and inventory is healthy. If you are willing to spend more for added configuration flexibility, the 2021 is worth a look.
