Used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD for Sale nearChicago, IL

How much does the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD cost?

Prices have softened 6.40% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,164 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD a good car?

Yes — the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 6.8/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Technology.

Owners consistently praise its impressive power, spacious interior, and robust features, and they also point to comfortable ride quality and strong capability with the 6.6 gas engine. The truck’s multiple body styles and multiple powertrain options make it easy to tailor to different needs, especially if you want serious work-ready ability without giving up modern convenience.

The trade-offs are clear: the interior materials feel cheap, and the truck’s poor ride quality and poor handling keep it from feeling refined. Even so, if you want a heavy-duty pickup that prioritizes capability, configuration flexibility, and useful tech, this model year fits that brief well.

33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

Owners describe the truck as impressive in power and generally comfortable, and they also highlight its robust features and spacious interior. That kind of feedback suggests you can count on it for demanding use, especially if you value a truck that feels built for long-term ownership rather than short-term flash.

The expert review also points to a capable, work-ready truck with comfortable accommodations and useful camera technology, which supports the idea that it should hold up well as a used purchase. The main long-term ownership risk for used buyers is that the cheaper-feeling interior and limited refinement may matter more as mileage and wear add up.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any truck you’re considering, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize an inspection of the cabin, bed, and any work-truck wear points, since this model’s interior materials and utility-focused design can show use quickly. It’s also smart to focus on how the truck was equipped, because feature content varies a lot by trim and package.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country are the core grades, and the base trims leave out some of the comfort and convenience equipment you may want. The truck’s wide range of body styles, bed lengths, wheel choices, and special editions means you should compare equipment carefully before you buy.
• Powertrain: You can choose a 6.6-liter V8 gasoline engine or a 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel. The gas engine makes 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, while the diesel makes 445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque and is the stronger choice if you tow.
• Safety package: Work Truck and Custom models can be equipped with a Safety Confidence Package that adds forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, steering-wheel audio controls, a 4.2-inch driver information screen, and cruise control. Some safety and convenience features remain optional rather than standard on lower trims.
• Infotainment: Every Silverado HD gets a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, two USB ports, and a 3.5-inch driver information display. Wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto are available, along with an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8-inch driver information screen.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel-economy figures are not provided for this heavy-duty truck.

Which 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD trim should I buy?

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD is offered in 5 trim levels: Work Truck, Custom, LT, LTZ, and High Country.

Here's the short version:

• Work Truck: This is the most basic path into the Silverado 2500HD, and it makes sense if you want the truck’s core capability without paying for extra comfort or convenience features.
• Custom: This trim adds a bit more everyday usability while staying on the affordable side, and it’s a sensible choice if you want a better-equipped truck without moving too far up the price ladder.
• LT: This is the best-value trim for many buyers because it balances equipment and price well, and it can be equipped with Duramax and Appearance Packages. It also gets the EZ Lift tailgate as standard.
• LTZ: Step here if you want a more upscale feel and more available equipment, including special editions like the LTZ Premium Texas Edition.
• High Country: This is the top-end choice if you want the most premium version of the Silverado 2500HD, but you’ll pay for the added content.

Work Truck and Custom models are the trims with the Safety Confidence Package option, so if driver-assistance features matter to you, start there or verify the package on any listing you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,164 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 77.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $39,721, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD's resale value?

The current average of $39,952 sits slightly below last year's $42,685.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper resale upside if you plan to sell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the truck in strong condition, you’ll be better positioned to limit depreciation pressure later.

The Silverado 2500HD’s broad appeal as a configurable heavy-duty truck should help it stay relevant with shoppers who need towing and hauling capability. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD safe?

It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.

Chevrolet equips every Silverado 2500 with six airbags, a rearview camera, Teen Driver software, electronic stability control with traction control, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Work Truck and Custom models can be equipped with a Safety Confidence Package that adds forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, while additional available features include front and rear park assist, lane-departure warning, rear-seat reminder, high-beam assist, and following distance indicator.

One important caveat is that heavy-duty trucks are not crash tested by NHTSA or IIHS, so you won’t get the same kind of published crash-test results you might expect from a light-duty pickup or SUV. That means you should pay close attention to the available driver-assistance equipment on the specific truck you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 77.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.40% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2021 adds fresh camera technology and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto availability.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $38,429, the 2020 costs less than the current year's $39,952 average.
• It offers multiple powertrain options and easy-to-use technology.

The bottom line: If you want the better current-market mix of inventory, pricing, and updated tech, the 2021 is the stronger pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2020 is the more budget-friendly alternative and still delivers the core heavy-duty capability you’re shopping for.
