What’s New for the 2027 Ford F-250 Super Duty
The F-250 Super Duty’s 2027 updates are minor. The off-road-oriented Tremor package is now available with the base XL trim with the STX Appearance package, and it can now be had with the Crew Cab, long-box body style. An XL Off-Road 35-inch Tire package for the base XL model with the Crew Cab and short box adds LT285/75R18, 35-inch off-road tires, an electronic locking rear differential, a limited-slip front differential, performance shocks, a higher ride height, a full-size spare tire, Trail Control, Trail Turn Assist, Rock Crawl mode, and skid plates for the transfer case and fuel tank. Also new is a Carhartt package with a dark grille, off-road running boards, a spray-in bedliner with the Carhartt logo, unique 20-inch wheels with all-terrain tires, LED roof markers and clearance lamps, LED fog lamps and reflector lamps, an LED high-mounted central stoplight, and Carhartt graphics on the doors, tailgate, and fender vents. The interior has Carhartt-inspired cloth seats with triple stitching, a wrapped steering wheel with accent stitching, and floor mats inspired by Carhartt tool bags.
Design
The F-250 comes in three cab styles with two bed lengths. The regular cab has an 8-foot bed, while the extended-cab Super Cab and Crew Cab get the 8-foot bed or a 6-foot, 8-inch bed. The Super Cab has rear-hinged rear doors, while the Crew Cab has four standard doors. Tall and blunt, the F-250 is fronted by an upright grille rendered in black at its base level and chrome otherwise. Similarly, the front and rear bumpers are black on the base XL and chrome on the other trims. The grille is bracketed by stacked headlights with C-shaped light signatures, all available as LEDs. The cabin is marked by drop-down side windows that provide a better view of the tall side mirrors. Other features include tall air vents behind the front wheels, retractable bed steps ahead of the rear wheels, and built-in steps at the corners of the rear bumper. The base trim gets 17-inch steel wheels, while other models are offered with 18-inch or 20-inch alloy wheels. The bed is offered with drop-in or spray-in bedliners, a mat, LED lighting, and hard or soft tonneau covers. An integrated step, which tilts down and has a stand-up handle, pulls out of the tailgate to help people into the tall bed. Ford offers a Black Appearance package with black trim, a Chrome Appearance package with more chrome, and the aforementioned Carhartt package.
Powertrain
The F-250 Super Duty comes standard with a gasoline 7.3-liter V8 that produces 420 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque. The available diesel engine can handle heavier loads; it’s a 6.7-liter turbodiesel V8 that cranks out 500 hp and a massive 1,200 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard and buyers can specify optional four-wheel drive with low-range gearing. The F-250 can tow a trailer that weighs up to 18,200 pounds with the gas V8 on a conventional trailer hitch. Using a fifth-wheel or a gooseneck with the base V8 increases towing capacity to 19,500 pounds. With the diesel engine, the F-250 can tow up to 22,100 pounds on a conventional hitch or with a fifth wheel; the gooseneck increases that to 23,000 pounds. The Super Duty isn’t an ideal off-roader, given its size and weight, but Ford offers a few off-road packages. It tops out with the aforementioned Tremor and XL Off-Road 35-inch Tire packages. The Tremor adds the most off-road features, with a taller ride height, 35-inch off-road tires, a 4.30 electronic locking axle ratio with the gas engine and a 3.55 ratio with the diesel, unique front springs, an electronic locking rear differential, a limited-slip front differential, off-road shocks, off-road running boards, a unique front air dam for a better approach angle, skid plates for the transfer case and fuel tank, Rock Crawl and Trail Control modes, and water fording vent tubes. Ford also offers an Off-Road 33-inch Tire package and an FX4 Off-Road package.
Interior
Ford offers the F-250 as a regular cab that seats two or three, or as a Super Cab or Crew Cab that seats five or six. The base XL model is a stripped-down work truck. It comes with vinyl upholstery, manually adjustable seats, a front bench seat, manual climate control, and a urethane steering wheel. Available features include cloth, synthetic leather or leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, power-adjustable pedals, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.
Technology
The F-250 also has a basic technology set in its cheapest forms. It gets a standard 4.2-inch digital information center and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. The audio system has four speakers in the regular cab and six in the Super Cab and Crew Cab. Moving up the trim ladder adds a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-inch touchscreen, navigation, satellite radio, wireless phone charging, a head-up display, and eight-speaker or 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio systems. Since many F-250s are used as fleet vehicles, Ford also outfits the F-250 with a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, Ford Pro Telematics, and Ford Data Services. The latter two help fleet managers with vehicle GPS tracking, driver monitoring, geofencing, dashcams, and vehicle health tracking. The Wi-Fi hotspot is free for a year, and buyers can prepay for a seven-year plan. Ford also offers its Pro Power Onboard that acts as a generator to power 120-volt outlets in the bed.
