CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Ford Edge
overall

Summary
With 164 currently listed for sale near Chicago, IL and an average price of $12,116.00, 26.8% of 2017 Ford Edges for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Ford Edge 4.43 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
79.3% of 2017 Edge models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Ford Edge stands out as a well-sized crossover that sits between the smaller Ford Escape and the larger Explorer and Flex. It offers seating for five passengers, ample cargo room, and storage cubbies galore, making it a practical choice for busy families. Rather than trying to be a rugged off-road vehicle, it is aimed at everyday use, with a manageable size and a family-friendly layout.
Stylistically, the Edge is sleek and attractive, though it is not especially dramatic or eye-catching. That restrained design may appeal to buyers who want a crossover that looks polished without being flashy. The overall impression is of a vehicle that focuses on usefulness, comfort, and space more than on making a bold visual statement.

I never had a problem with my 2017 Edge. At 65000 miles I got a notice from Ford that due to engine problems they needed to replace engine. Brought it in when they got the engine in stock. No charge. Then got a notice about the transmission. Brought it in. No charge. Car now has 95,000 miles. No problems so far except new battery which Aaa replaced for $85. mechanic told me Ford Edge is the best car Ford makes.

This car is a great car for someone who lives in a winter climate. It has great clearance and with snow tires can easily go through a foot of snow with the all-wheel-drive model with no worries! I like that has space for my kids and my stuff. I like that it’s comfortable and it’s not too big. I like that it’s easy on gas!

| Year-Round High | $13,484.49 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,404 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.07% |
Prices have softened 6.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,978 listings available, which suggests you should have a reasonable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $12,272.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge a good car?
Generally — 4.43/5 is a strong user rating for the 2017 Ford Edge, and the expert score is 7.5/10. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Form and function, and Safety.
Drivers consistently praise its powerful performance, spacious interior, and comfort. The review summary also points to well-appointed features and a smooth ride, which fits a crossover aimed at families who want a practical daily driver with room for passengers and cargo. With its balanced size and family-friendly layout, it makes sense if you want a midsize crossover that emphasizes comfort and usability over flash.
29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still some attractive opportunities in the market.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge reliable?
Owners rate it 4.43/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The review summary describes it as reliable for many owners, with a lot to offer for the price, even though some drivers reported early mechanical problems and engine issues. The expert evaluation also describes the Edge as composed and responsive, which supports the sense that it’s built to be a dependable family crossover rather than a finicky one. If you’re shopping used, the main ownership risk is that some examples may have had mechanical issues, so condition and service history matter.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Ford Edge?
At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with a lower asking price. Focus on signs of prior body damage, uneven panel gaps, and any evidence of deferred maintenance. Because some owners reported engine issues, it’s smart to pay close attention to how the drivetrain behaves on a cold start and during a test drive.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base model comes with cloth seats, a 4.2-inch screen, and a reversing camera, while higher trims add features like heated seating, a power liftgate, blind-spot warning, and more upscale materials. The base trim is the one most likely to feel sparse if you want modern convenience and safety extras.
- Powertrain: You get a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder with 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque at the base, a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque on some trims, and a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 with 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque in the Sport. The lineup ranges from efficient to very quick, with the Sport trading fuel economy for stronger acceleration.
- Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, and a 180-degree front camera with washer. Those features are not standard on the base model, so trim choice matters if safety tech is a priority.
- Infotainment: The base system uses a 4.2-inch screen with a single USB port, while Sync 3 brings an 8-inch touchscreen, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and available navigation. The upgrade is a meaningful step up in usability.
- Fuel efficiency: The Sport is rated at 17 mpg city/24 highway, while the base engine with FWD and auto start-stop is rated at 21 mpg city/29 highway. The more powerful AWD setups give up efficiency for performance.
Which 2017 Ford Edge trim should I buy?
The 2017 Ford Edge is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SEL, Titanium, Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE gives you the essentials, but it lacks the richer cabin materials, larger infotainment screen, and many of the safety and convenience upgrades found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SEL is the best value if you want a better balance of features and price, since it adds meaningful comfort and convenience upgrades without jumping to the highest price tier.
- Premium/top trim: The Titanium is the best choice if you want the most upscale cabin and the strongest tech package, including the larger touchscreen and premium audio.
- Off-road trim: The Sport is the performance-focused choice, but its stronger engine and standard AWD make it less appealing if you’re mainly shopping for everyday efficiency.
The safety package is strongest on higher trims, where you can add features like blind-spot warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Ford Edge?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with some room to negotiate if you shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,978 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.07% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 69.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $12,272.24, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2017 Ford Edge's resale value?
The current average of $12,590 sits slightly below last year's $13,404.
That price movement suggests the Edge has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy at the right price and keep the vehicle in strong condition, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss later. The current softness also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on mileage, condition, and trim desirability.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.43/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2017 Ford Edge safe?
The Ford Edge earns five-star ratings from NHTSA, with a four-star rating for rollover resistance. IIHS rated it Good in all crash tests except small front overlap, where it received an Acceptable rating.
It earns a 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Ford’s available safety suite includes lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot warning, forward-collision warning, and a 180-degree front camera with washer. Those features are available on higher trims rather than the base model, so you’ll want to check equipment carefully if safety tech matters to you. The lack of front crash-mitigation technology also keeps it from earning the top IIHS award.
Should I buy a 2017 Ford Edge or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 69.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.07% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.43/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2017 Edge offers a balanced mix of family space, comfort, and performance.
Consider the 2016 if:
- At $11,261, the 2016 costs less than the current year's $12,590 average.
- It adds a strong performance-and-tech mix with a spacious, family-friendly cabin.
The bottom line: If you want the current-year balance of price, comfort, and features, the 2017 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2016 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers much of the Edge formula.
