CarGurus Analysis: 2017 Audi Q5

Summary
With 1,635 currently listed for sale and an average price of $12,668.00, 33.1% of 2017 Audi Q5s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Audi Q5 4.6 / 5 stars.
66.5% of 2017 Q5 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2017 Audi Q5 stands out as a luxury SUV that emphasizes refinement, practicality, and standard equipment rather than flash. It has a roomy, beautifully built interior and a real feeling of solidity and smoothness, which helps explain why it appeals to buyers who want comfort and quality in an everyday package. Audi also gave the Q5 a broad range of trim levels and options, so even the base model was well equipped for its class.
For 2017, the Q5’s engine lineup included the 2.0T four-cylinder, the 3.0-liter supercharged V6, and the Q5 Hybrid, while the SQ5 brought a 354-horsepower supercharged 3.0-liter V6. Standard equipment on the core trims was generous, with features such as leather upholstery, LED taillights, three-zone climate control, and power-adjustable front seats on entry models, plus available upgrades like a power tailgate, heated front seats, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and satellite navigation. That combination of premium features and multiple powertrain choices gives the 2017 Q5 a strong sense of breadth.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Q5’s ownership story is not spotless, with excessive oil consumption and failing timing chains among the most prominent issues reported by first-generation owners, especially on 2.0T models. It also carries the premium pricing and ownership costs that come with a luxury badge. Even so, its blend of comfort, practicality, and upscale presentation makes the 2017 Audi Q5 distinctive among used midsize SUVs.

Drives great, tows way more than it should, beyond comfortable and has a refined interior. Pricey but checked all the boxes of what I was looking for at a lower cost point then the trucks and larger suvs I was originally looking at. Audi makes great vehicles if you can accept the high cost of ownership. Only reason I’m not going five stars is price of purchase and cost of ownership. Otherwise I love the vehicle.

I think the interface on the car needs to be updated to fit modern and future technology. The horse power needs to be beefed up to stay competative in the segment its in. Overall its a good, safe and economical car. The Quattro system is great, and the cabin comfort is excellent.

There are 1,647 listings available, which suggests you have a solid amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $12,632.65, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2017 Audi Q5 a good car?
Yes — the 2017 Audi Q5 earns a 4.6/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers consistently praise its fun driving experience, spacious interior, and refined comfort. The blend of luxury and practicality also comes through clearly, especially if you want an everyday SUV that feels upscale without being overly flashy. With 34.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2017 Audi Q5 reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback highlights a dependable-feeling ownership experience, with praise for the vehicle’s refined comfort and the sense that it holds up well as a daily driver. The recurring positives around long-term satisfaction and trouble-free use matter here because they suggest many owners feel confident living with the Q5 over time. Even so, used buyers should still plan for a careful inspection, since premium SUVs can carry higher long-term ownership risk if maintenance history is incomplete.
What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Audi Q5?
At 66.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on body condition, panel alignment, and signs of inconsistent wear, then make sure the mechanical condition matches the seller’s description. Because this is a premium SUV, you should also pay close attention to maintenance records and overall care, not just mileage.

What is the 2017 Audi Q5's resale value?
The current average of $12,704 sits slightly below last year's $13,873.
That softer pricing can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future resale gains may be more limited if the market stays subdued. For a seller, the key takeaway is that value retention depends heavily on condition, mileage, and documentation, especially in a segment where buyers compare many similar listings. Well-kept examples should still attract interest, but you should expect pricing discipline from shoppers.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2017 Audi Q5 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2017 if:
- 34.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 66.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 8.43% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2018 if:
- At $15,907, the 2018 costs more than the current year's $12,704 average.
- It brings a redesigned platform with more room and newer technology.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2017 is the primary path because it combines strong owner satisfaction with a lower average price. If you’re price-sensitive but still want a premium SUV, the 2017 is the easier buy; if you’re willing to spend more for a newer redesign and added sophistication, the 2018 is the secondary path worth considering.
