Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC earns a 4.9/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its comfortable ride, smooth performance, and appealing features, and many also like the power and safety attributes it offers on long trips. The overview frames it as a strong contender for you if you want a small luxury crossover with an upscale feel and a compact footprint. At the same time, the test-drive commentary shows that its appeal depends on how you plan to use it: it can feel especially rewarding when you value luxury polish and everyday usability, but the performance-oriented version is aimed more at hard driving than relaxed commuting.

Good and great deals account for 33.8% of listings, so you still have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC reliable?

Owners rate it 4.9/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user-review summary points to a comfortable, smooth, and appealing vehicle that many owners enjoy for long trips, while also noting that some buyers have experienced reliability concerns and significant mechanical problems soon after purchase. The expert commentary also emphasizes that this model can be highly satisfying when used as intended, but that the performance-focused version is not the best fit if you want a calmer, lower-stress ownership experience. Mercedes’ engineering standards are described as high, yet the same commentary makes clear that the performance hardware and premium complexity can make this a less forgiving used buy if prior maintenance has been inconsistent.

For a used buyer, the main long-term risk is that a well-equipped luxury crossover can be rewarding to own but expensive to sort out if it has been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC?

At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing has any accident history or incomplete service records. Focus on condition, repair quality, and whether the vehicle’s equipment and driver-assistance features are functioning as expected. If you’re considering a higher-spec example, make sure the added hardware and options are actually present and working.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The cabin presentation is a major part of the appeal, especially when you get the richer leather and natural-grain wood trim described in the test vehicle. Base versions are more straightforward, while higher-spec examples add more visual polish and luxury touches.
• Powertrain: The AMG GLC 43 uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 362 horsepower, an AMG-tuned 9-speed automatic, and performance-oriented 4Matic all-wheel drive. It is built for strong acceleration and enthusiastic driving rather than relaxed, everyday efficiency.
• Safety package: Every GLC-Class includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, drowsy-driver monitoring, a reversing camera, Pre-Safe, and blind-spot warning on the AMG GLC 43. The Premium 3 package adds adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, pedestrian detection, active lane-centering steering assist, active lane-keeping and blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic alert, rear-impact Pre-Safe preparation, and active LED headlights with automatic high-beam activation.
• Infotainment: Versions with navigation use an 8.4-inch screen, and the Comand system includes a control knob, handwriting recognition pad, and dashboard buttons. The system can take time to learn, so you should verify that the interface, navigation, and connected services work properly.
• Fuel efficiency: The AMG GLC 43 is rated at 20 mpg in combined driving, and the test loop returned 18.9 mpg.

Which 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC is offered in 1 trim level: AMG GLC 43.

Here's the short version:

The AMG GLC 43 is the only trim explicitly described here, and it is the one to consider if you want the most performance-focused version of the GLC. It adds the twin-turbo V6, AMG-tuned transmission, performance brakes, adaptive air suspension, wider track, larger wheels and tires, and a more aggressive driving character. It suits you best if you plan to drive hard and want the most engaging version of the model. If you want a calmer, more cost-conscious ownership experience, the expert commentary suggests you may be happier with a less performance-heavy alternative.

The Premium 3 package is the key safety-oriented upgrade, adding a much broader set of driver-assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,066 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.18% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,328, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC's resale value?

The current average of $15,328 sits slightly below last year's $16,693.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you’re thinking about short-term resale. If you plan to sell later, the best protection is to buy a clean, well-documented example and avoid overpaying for options that the next buyer may not value as much. A model with strong demand and broad appeal should hold up better than one with unresolved condition issues or a rough history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.9/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC safe?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Every GLC-Class is equipped with a forward-collision warning system with automatic emergency braking, a drowsy-driver monitoring system, a reversing camera, and Pre-Safe, and the AMG GLC 43 also gets blind-spot warning. If you want the fuller driver-assistance suite, the Premium 3 package adds adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, pedestrian detection, active lane-centering steering assist, active lane-keeping and blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic alert, rear-impact Pre-Safe preparation, and active LED headlights with automatic high-beam activation. One caveat from testing is that the automatic high beams can be overly aggressive in some situations.

Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 8.18% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.9/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert takeaway for this year is that the AMG GLC 43 is best if you want a performance SUV that feels brilliant on mountain roads and less compelling as a daily driver.

The bottom line: If you want a compact luxury crossover with strong comfort, upscale presentation, and a lower used price than it carried new, the 2017 is the right path to focus on. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can still shop carefully and look for a clean, well-maintained example with the right options, but you should be selective about history and condition.
