Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC a good car?

Yes — the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC earns a 4.86/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise the comfortable ride, smooth performance, and appealing features, and they also highlight the power and safety attributes that make it especially satisfying on long trips. Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC reliable?

Owners rate it 4.86/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a vehicle that many drivers find comfortable, smooth, and appealing over time, while also noting that some owners have experienced mechanical problems soon after purchase. The expert notes also suggest that the vehicle is engineered to high standards, even if some interior details are not perfect.

That means you should treat reliability as a key used-buying checkpoint: a clean service history and a thorough pre-purchase inspection matter more here than they would on a simpler mainstream SUV.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC?

At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a hands-on inspection of bodywork, panel alignment, tires, brakes, and any signs of prior repair. Because this model can be appealing for comfort and features, it’s worth making sure the condition matches the asking price before you commit.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The GLC lineup includes the standard GLC 300, the GLC Coupe, and the AMG GLC 43. The base GLC 300 is the value-oriented choice, while the AMG GLC 43 adds a much more aggressive look and performance-focused hardware; the Coupe trades some cargo and rear-seat room for a sleeker shape.
• Powertrain: The AMG GLC 43 uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 362 horsepower, an AMG-tuned 9-speed automatic transmission, and 4Matic all-wheel drive. It is tuned for strong acceleration and enthusiastic driving, but the expert notes make clear that it is best suited to buyers who will actually use that performance.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, drowsy-driver monitoring, a reversing camera, Pre-Safe, and blind-spot warning. The Premium 3 package adds adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, pedestrian detection, active lane-centering steering assist, active lane-keeping and blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic alert, rear-impact Pre-Safe preparation, and active LED headlights with automatic high-beam activation.
• Infotainment: The Comand system uses an 8.4-inch screen on navigation-equipped versions, along with a control knob, handwriting recognition pad, and dashboard buttons. The system is feature-rich, but it can take time to learn.
• Fuel efficiency: The AMG GLC 43 is rated at 20 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC trim should I buy?

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC is offered in 3 trim levels: GLC 300, GLC Coupe, AMG GLC 43.

Here's the short version:

• GLC 300: This is the trim to target if you want the core GLC experience without paying for performance hardware you may not use. It delivers the polished luxury feel, and the overview makes clear that the standard model is the better fit for most buyers who want comfort and everyday usefulness.
• GLC Coupe: Choose this if you want the same general GLC formula but prefer a more stylish fastback shape and can live with less cargo space and reduced backseat room. It makes the most sense if design matters more to you than maximum practicality.
• AMG GLC 43: This is the right pick if you want the performance-focused version and plan to drive hard often. The expert notes say it is disappointing as a daily driver but extraordinarily satisfying as a performance vehicle, so it is best for enthusiasts rather than casual commuters.

The Premium 3 safety package is the trim-level safety upgrade to look for if you want the fullest driver-assistance feature set.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.

• Deal availability: 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,102 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.32% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,567, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC's resale value?

The current average of $15,638 sits slightly below last year's $16,872.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that this model year is not in a rising-price phase, so condition, mileage, and equipment will matter more than broad market momentum.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.86/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, drowsy-driver monitoring, a reversing camera, Pre-Safe, and blind-spot warning. If you want the most complete driver-assistance setup, the Premium 3 package adds adaptive cruise control with full-stop capability, pedestrian detection, active lane-centering steering assist, active lane-keeping and blind-spot assist, rear cross-traffic alert, rear-impact Pre-Safe preparation, and active LED headlights with automatic high-beam activation.

One caution is that neither the federal government nor the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has conducted crash tests on this SUV, so you should lean more heavily on the standard equipment list and the condition of any individual vehicle you consider.

Should I buy a 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 34.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Prices have softened 7.32% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.86/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The expert takeaway for this year is that the AMG GLC 43 is best treated as a performance vehicle, not a do-everything daily driver.

The bottom line: If you want a polished compact luxury SUV and you find a clean, well-priced example, the 2017 GLC is worth serious consideration. If you are shopping on a tighter budget, the softer pricing makes this a good year to target, but you should be selective and prioritize condition, history, and the trim that matches how you actually drive.
