How much does the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle cost?

Prices are up 3.41% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 288 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle a good car?

Yes — 4.5/5 is a strong user rating for a car that blends retro style with modern hardware, a roomier interior, and more trunk space than earlier Beetles. The 2016 model also keeps the front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout and adds a premium-feeling cabin, so you get more substance than the shape alone suggests. It is still more about character than outright practicality, but that is exactly the appeal if you want something distinctive rather than anonymous. 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2016 Beetle does not have a standout reliability record, and engines and timing chains can be problematic. That means you should treat maintenance history and mechanical condition as especially important on the used market. For long-term ownership, the main risk is buying a car with deferred upkeep or unresolved engine-related issues.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Volkswagen Beetle?

At 52.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report and confirm whether any reported damage was repaired properly. Put a pre-purchase inspection at the top of your list, with extra attention on engine condition, timing-chain-related concerns, and signs of uneven wear or poor repairs. Because the Beetle is more about style and personality than maximum practicality, make sure the specific car you choose is clean, well maintained, and free of hidden issues.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Volkswagen Beetle?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer's market, so you can shop patiently and still find worthwhile options.

• Deal availability: 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 288 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.41% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 52.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,997, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?

The current average of $15,534 sits slightly above last year's $15,022.

That upward move suggests the market has held up reasonably well for this model year. If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned when it is time to sell. The Beetle's distinctive styling can help it stand out with shoppers who want personality, which can support demand later on.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 52.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.41% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,420, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $15,534 average.
• It offers three engine choices and a more flexible trim range.

The bottom line: If you want the better-balanced shopping target, the 2016 is the stronger primary choice because it combines solid demand, a decent deal rate, and strong owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the better secondary path, especially if you find one with the right equipment and condition.
