How much does the 2016 Toyota Corolla cost?

Prices are up 3.24% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 1,988 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Toyota Corolla earns a 4.67/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its fuel efficiency, smooth ride, and value for money. The feedback also points to a comfortable cabin with a more upscale feel than you might expect at this price. In use, that lines up with the Corolla’s practical, everyday focus: it is built to be a sensible daily driver with a polished look and a straightforward feature set.

With 32.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to find a strong-value example.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla reliable?

Owners rate it 4.67/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback describes the Corolla as reliable and dependable, and it also highlights its fuel efficiency and smooth ride. The expert evaluation reinforces that theme by describing the car as a cost-effective, fuel-efficient daily driver that can provide reliable transportation for years, if not decades. The ownership picture is helped by the Corolla’s straightforward mechanical setup, though some shoppers may want to pay extra attention to the CVT if they are comparing used examples.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about the Corolla’s core mission and more about finding one that has been maintained well and driven gently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Corolla?

At 44.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had prior bodywork or higher mileage. Focus on overall condition, signs of uneven wear, and whether the car’s equipment matches the trim you expect. Because some shoppers have raised concerns about the CVT, it is smart to pay close attention to how the transmission behaves on a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The L is the most basic version, while the LE adds a 6.1-inch touchscreen, remote keyless entry, automatic climate control, and SofTex-trimmed seats. The S adds a sportier appearance with a unique grille, integrated fog lights, chrome-tipped exhaust, and a rear spoiler.
• Powertrain: The Corolla uses a 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder. Most versions make 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque, while the LE Eco uses Valvematic technology and other tweaks for 140 hp and 126 lb-ft of torque. Most trims use a CVT, while the L can be had with a 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.
• Safety package: Every Corolla includes the Star Safety System with eight standard airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes. Models with the touchscreen also get an integrated backup camera. The Corolla does not offer forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, or adaptive cruise control.
• Infotainment: The base car uses a conventional touchscreen and controls layout. The LE upgrades to a 6.1-inch touchscreen with easy-to-use controls, Entune apps, voice control, and Siri Eyes Free when paired with a Bluetooth-connected iPhone. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are not offered.
• Fuel efficiency: The most common CVT and FWD setup returns 29 mpg city/38 highway/32 combined. The base L with the 4-speed automatic gets 27/36/31, 6-speed versions return 28/37/31, and the LE Eco reaches 30/42/36.

Which 2016 Toyota Corolla trim should I buy?

The 2016 Toyota Corolla is offered in 4 trim levels: L, LE, LE Eco, and S.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the entry point if you want the lowest starting price and a simple, no-nonsense setup. It gives you the essentials, including Bluetooth, USB input, LED headlights, and eight airbags, but it is the most stripped-down choice.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the 6.1-inch touchscreen, remote keyless entry, automatic climate control, and SofTex-trimmed seats without pushing the price into the sportier trims.
• LE Eco: Choose this if fuel economy is your top priority. It uses the efficiency-focused engine tune and delivers the best mpg figures in the lineup.
• S: Pick this if you want the Corolla’s sportier appearance. It adds the unique grille, fog lights, chrome-tipped exhaust, and rear spoiler, but it is more about style than performance.

Every Corolla includes the Star Safety System, and touchscreen-equipped models also get an integrated backup camera.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota Corolla?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on a strong listing.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,988 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.24% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 44.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,969, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Toyota Corolla's resale value?

The current average of $12,865 sits slightly above last year's $12,462.

That upward move suggests the Corolla is holding buyer interest well in the used market. For a future seller, that matters because steady demand can help support pricing when you decide to list. The model’s value-focused reputation and broad appeal also make it easier to market than a more niche compact car.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.67/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Toyota Corolla safe?

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Every Corolla features the Star Safety System, which includes eight standard airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes. Models equipped with the touchscreen also have an integrated backup camera. The Corolla does not offer forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, or adaptive cruise control, so its safety tech is more basic than what some rivals provide.

That means you get a solid standard safety foundation, but you should not expect the advanced driver-assistance coverage that newer or better-equipped competitors may offer.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Corolla or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 44.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 3.24% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.67/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It delivers strong value, fuel economy, and a straightforward feature set in a competitive small-car market.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $11,813, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $12,865 average.
• It emphasizes dependable, sensible transportation with a bit more style and modest driving enjoyment.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $13,994, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $12,865 average.
• It adds standard Safety Sense P and a reversing camera for a more complete safety package.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, efficiency, and everyday usefulness, the 2016 is the smart middle ground. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money, while shoppers who want more standard safety tech may prefer the 2017 even at a higher price.
