Is the 2016 Subaru Legacy reliable?

The 2016 Legacy’s reliability appeal comes from its reputation for strong safety content, standard all-wheel drive, and a practical, confidence-inspiring setup for daily use. Its focus on comfort, safety features, and year-round traction suggests a car built for steady ownership rather than excitement.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about flash and more about making sure the car has been maintained well enough to preserve that dependable, all-weather character.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Subaru Legacy?

At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should run a vehicle history report on any promising listing and prioritize cars with clean records. A pre-purchase inspection is worth it, especially if you want to confirm the condition of the drivetrain, suspension, and safety-related equipment. Focus on overall condition and maintenance history, since that will matter more than cosmetic appeal alone.

What is the 2016 Subaru Legacy's resale value?

The current average of $11,946 sits slightly below last year's $12,064.

That small decline suggests the market has stayed fairly stable, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. You are not looking at a sharply weakening price environment, but you also should not expect rapid appreciation. A well-kept Legacy should remain appealing to shoppers who value standard all-wheel drive and practical everyday use.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Subaru Legacy or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 30.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 57.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $10,426, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $11,946 average.
• It offers a more polished presentation with a bigger interior and nicer accommodations.

The bottom line: Choose the 2016 if you want the stronger current-market balance of price stability, deal availability, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less upfront, the 2015 is the better value-oriented alternative.
