Is the 2016 Dodge Charger a good car?

Yes — the 2016 Dodge Charger earns a 4.8/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

Drivers consistently praise its powerful acceleration, stylish design, and comfortable interior, and many also see it as a strong value for the features it offers. Is the 2016 Dodge Charger reliable?

Owners rate it 4.8/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a car that feels dependable and trouble-free enough to earn repeat praise for its value, comfort, and everyday appeal. The expert evaluation also describes it as a car with more substance than its image suggests, and the cost-effectiveness notes say it ranks highly in some owner-satisfaction measures even if broader dependability results are less impressive. If you buy used, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Dodge Charger?

At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on body condition, evidence of prior repairs, and whether the equipment on the car matches the trim and options you expect. Because this model can be found in a wide range of configurations, it also pays to confirm that the features you want are actually present on the specific listing.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The SXT is the step up from the base model and adds the standard V6 setup, while the test car’s packages show how much equipment can be layered on top of it. If you want the best value, this is the trim to study closely because it can deliver a lot of the Charger experience without pushing into pricier territory.
• Powertrain: All SE and SXT models use a 3.6-liter V6 with an 8-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive is available for both trims. The V6 is described as excellent, and the setup is efficient for a large sedan.
• Safety package: Available driver-assistance tech includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. Some of these features are optional rather than standard, so check the exact build carefully.
• Infotainment: The Charger uses Uconnect with an 8.4-inch touchscreen, and it offers a deep set of programmable settings through the driver information system. Wireless smartphone integration and over-the-air capability are not mentioned.
• Fuel efficiency: The V6 returned 22.9 mpg in combined driving and is described as essentially matching the EPA’s 23 mpg combined estimate.

Which 2016 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?

The 2016 Dodge Charger is offered in 2 trim levels: SE and SXT.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the Charger’s core V6 power and rear-drive character at the lowest cost. It is the trim to target if your priority is value and you plan to add only the options you truly need.
• SXT: This is the better-value choice for most shoppers because it builds on the base setup while keeping the same strong V6 foundation. If you want the sweet spot between price and equipment, this is the trim to focus on.

The safety content notes that some driver-assistance features are available as upgrades, so verify the exact package list on any used example.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Dodge Charger?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 26.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 890 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 49.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $14,965, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Dodge Charger's resale value?

The current average of $15,625 sits slightly above last year's $15,617.

That small increase suggests the market has been stable rather than volatile, which is helpful if you plan to sell later. A steady price trend usually means buyers still see value in the model, but it also means you should expect resale to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold up better than rougher cars with accident history or missing options.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.8/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Dodge Charger safe?

The 2016 Dodge Charger gets a Marginal rating in the small overlap frontal impact crash test from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, while other crash-test assessments earn top ratings from both the federal government and the IIHS.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Available driver-assistance tech includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist. The safety writeup also notes that the car’s structural age contributes to the small-overlap result, so that is the main caution to keep in mind when shopping used.

Should I buy a 2016 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 26.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.8/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It blends muscle-car style with family-sedan usefulness and strong value.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,970, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $15,625 average.
• It offers a more aggressive redesign and a mostly unchanged, easy-to-live-with cabin.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $18,336, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $15,625 average.
• It leans harder into thunderous, attention-grabbing muscle-car personality.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, satisfaction, and everyday usefulness, the 2016 is the primary path to consider. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 can save you money while keeping the Charger formula intact. If you want a more dramatic and enthusiast-focused version, the 2017 is the better fit, but you’ll pay more for it.
