How much does the 2015 Subaru Forester cost?

Prices have softened 1.96% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,434 listings available, which suggests you have a solid pool of used Foresters to compare.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester a good car?

Yes — the 2015 Subaru Forester earns a 4.7/5 user rating and a 7.2/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.

Owners consistently praise its smooth handling, spacious interior, fuel efficiency, and practicality. That lines up with the overview: you’re looking at a crossover that puts value and safety ahead of flash, with appeal for shoppers who want a practical compact SUV without chasing the newest technology or the most luxurious cabin.

The market also looks reasonably supportive, with 31.8% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner summary points to a vehicle that feels dependable in daily use, with recurring praise for its practicality, comfort, and overall value. The expert review also describes it as a good balance for a reliable family and grocery hauler, which reinforces the sense that it’s built for steady everyday ownership.

Subaru’s cost-of-ownership reputation also helps the case for long-term dependability. For used buyers, the main risk is that some examples may have accumulated wear or maintenance neglect, so condition and service history matter more than the badge alone.

What should I look for when buying a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

At 63.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin electronics and safety systems work as expected. Because owner feedback mentions reliability concerns and outdated infotainment, it’s smart to test every feature rather than assuming a clean-looking example is mechanically sound.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Forester’s appeal centers on its practical, understated character, but the cabin is described as below par and the infotainment system as one of the worst in the industry. The 2.5i Premium example also shows that packages can materially change the ownership experience, so base-trim equipment gaps matter.
• Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter boxer 4-cylinder is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT in lower trims, while the turbocharged 2.0XT adds much more power. The standard engine is efficient enough for the class, but performance is modest.
• Safety package: EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure and sway warnings, and pre-collision throttle management. It is camera-based, so low-visibility conditions can reduce availability.
• Infotainment: The standard backup camera uses a 4.3-inch screen, and the optional navigation system upgrades to a 6.1-inch touchscreen. The system is criticized for lag and poor resolution.
• Fuel efficiency: The base manual returns 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, while the CVT can manage 24 mpg city and 32 mpg highway. The turbocharged 2.0XT is rated at 23 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.

Which 2015 Subaru Forester trim should I buy?

The 2015 Subaru Forester is offered in 1 trim level: 2.5i Premium.

Here's the short version:

The 2.5i Premium: This is the trim highlighted in the expert review, and it’s the best reference point for what the Forester does well: practical space, good safety, and everyday usability. It suits you best if you want the Forester’s core strengths without chasing luxury or the latest tech.

The safety package note is important here: EyeSight adds meaningful driver-assistance features, but its camera-based setup can be limited in poor visibility.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2015 Subaru Forester?

This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.

• Deal availability: 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,434 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.96% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 63.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $10,874, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2015 Subaru Forester's resale value?

The current average of $11,104 sits slightly below last year's $11,326.

That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer but may trim upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the Forester’s strong reputation for practicality and safety should help keep demand steady among shoppers who want a sensible compact SUV.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2015 Subaru Forester safe?

The 2015 Subaru Forester earns an IIHS Top Safety Pick rating and a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes symmetrical AWD, antilock brakes, traction and stability control, and a full airbag suite with front pelvis/torso, side-curtain, and driver’s knee airbags. EyeSight adds pre-collision braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure and sway warnings, plus pre-collision throttle management, and the braking system earns a Superior rating from IIHS.

The main caveat is that EyeSight depends on cameras, so fog, snow, rain, and even bright sunlight can interfere with operation.

Should I buy a 2015 Subaru Forester or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2015 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2015 if:

• 31.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 63.3% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.96% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It combines strong safety with practical space and value-focused ownership.

Consider the 2014 if:

• At $9,636, the 2014 costs less than the current year's $11,104 average.
• It leans hard into Subaru’s all-wheel-drive reputation and all-weather capability.

Consider the 2016 if:

• At $12,596, the 2016 costs more than the current year's $11,104 average.
• It adds a new touchscreen interface that makes the package feel more up to date.

The bottom line: You should lean toward the 2015 if you want the strongest mix of safety, value, and practicality in this price band. If your budget is tighter, the 2014 can save money; if you want a more modern-feeling cabin, the 2016 is the better step up.

How does the 2015 Subaru Forester compare to the 2015 Honda CR-V?

Our experts score the 2015 Subaru Forester 7.2/10 and the 2015 Honda CR-V 8.5/10. The Forester is the better pick if you want standard all-wheel drive, strong safety, and a lower used price. The CR-V brings more power, better fuel economy, and a stronger overall expert score. If value and safety matter most, the Forester makes sense; if you want the more polished all-around crossover, the CR-V has the edge.
