CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Toyota Prius c
overall

Summary
With 190 currently listed for sale and an average price of $9,990.00, 24.7% of 2014 Toyota Prius cs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Toyota Prius c 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
58.4% of 2014 Prius c models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Toyota Prius c stands out as the smaller, more city-friendly way to get into the Prius family. It is described as a subcompact hybrid based on the same platform as the Toyota Yaris, but with the Prius drivetrain and more attractive, fun packaging. That combination gives it a clear identity: it is meant for buyers who want hybrid efficiency in a compact, urban-friendly shape.
Its appeal also comes from value and positioning. The Prius c is presented as a more affordable alternative within the Prius lineup, and the source frames the question of whether its $19,080 price is worth the premium over the $14,430 Yaris. That makes it easy to understand the car’s mission: it trades on Prius branding and hybrid appeal while aiming to stay accessible.
At the same time, the comparison to the Yaris hints at its limitations. The Prius c is not trying to be the most spacious or most upscale option; instead, it focuses on being compact, efficient, and easy to live with in the city. For buyers who prioritize that mission, it has a distinctive place in the lineup.

Great little commuter car. It gets amazing mpg, easy to drive and park. The hatchback has decent cargo space for groceries etc. In 2 years has been a very reliable vehicle with just routine maintenance needed.

Is the 2014 Toyota Prius c a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 7.33/10. The standout strength is Technology at 9/10.
The 2014 Toyota Prius c is positioned as the smaller, more city-friendly way into the Prius family, and that mission comes through clearly in the overview. It is meant for you if you want hybrid efficiency in a compact, urban-friendly shape rather than maximum space or upscale polish.
The expert review also backs up that use case: it emphasizes the Prius c’s more affordable Prius branding, its compact footprint, and its easy-to-live-with city focus. With 26.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market also gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Toyota Prius c reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview frames this Prius c as a practical, efficiency-first hybrid, and the expert review reinforces that it is built around Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and regenerative braking. That setup is aimed at dependable everyday use rather than excitement, which is exactly what many used-hybrid shoppers want.
The expert review also notes that the Prius c can deliver strong fuel economy in stop-and-go driving, which supports its reputation as a low-running-cost commuter. It also mentions that the car’s value case depends on how you use it, so long-term ownership makes the most sense if you prioritize city driving and efficiency over speed.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that hybrid ownership only pays off if the car’s condition and usage history are solid, so you should verify maintenance and overall wear carefully.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Toyota Prius c?
At 56.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision. Focus on body condition, visibility concerns, and whether the car’s equipment works as expected, since the review calls out sight lines and the lack of a backup camera as a notable drawback.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base One trim starts with Bluetooth hands-free calling, a fold-down rear seat, a USB audio port, and remote keyless entry, while the Two adds a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, two-tone seat fabric, and a center-console armrest with storage. The Three adds a touchscreen navigation system, Toyota’s touch-tracer display, and push-button start, and the Four adds fog lights, SofTex heated front seats, and 15-inch alloy wheels.
- Powertrain: The Prius c uses Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive with a 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine, a high-output electric motor, and regenerative braking. It is rated at 99 horsepower, and the review notes 53 mpg city/46 highway with combined fuel economy listed at 50 mpg under ideal driving.
- Safety package: Nine airbags are standard, including front and side impact airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, and front and rear side curtain airbags. The review also notes a government overall rating of four-star.
- Infotainment: The touchscreen navigation system uses a 6.1-inch screen, and the tech suite includes apps such as Pandora, iHeartRadio, weather reports, and Bing web search. The review also mentions advanced voice recognition.
- Fuel efficiency: The review cites 53 mpg city/46 highway and 50 mpg combined, and the cost-effectiveness section says the average annual fuel cost is $1,050.
Which 2014 Toyota Prius c trim should I buy?
The 2014 Toyota Prius c is offered in 4 trim levels: One, Two, Three, Four.
Here's the short version:
- One: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core Prius c experience with Bluetooth, a fold-down rear seat, USB audio, and remote keyless entry. If you want the lowest-cost way into the model and can live without the extra convenience and tech, this is the trim to start with.
- Two: This adds a 60/40 split-fold rear seat, two-tone seat fabric, and a center-console armrest with storage, making it the best-value choice for many shoppers who want a little more everyday usability without jumping too far up the price ladder.
- Three: This trim is the tech-focused step up, adding a touchscreen navigation system, touch-tracer display, and push-button start. If you care most about the Prius c’s strongest category, this is the one that best matches that priority.
- Four: This is the most equipped version, adding fog lights, SofTex heated front seats, and 15-inch alloy wheels. Choose it if you want the most comfort and convenience features in the lineup.
Nine airbags are standard across the Prius c lineup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Toyota Prius c?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.
- Deal availability: 26.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 203 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.37% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $9,417.47, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Toyota Prius c's resale value?
The current average of $9,819 sits slightly below last year's $10,057.
That softer pricing suggests the model has already moved down from its prior level, which can help you as a buyer today but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you can still protect value, but the market is not signaling rapid appreciation.
The Prius c’s appeal is tied to efficiency and city-friendly practicality, so resale tends to depend on whether future buyers still value that same formula. A clean history and strong condition matter a lot when you eventually sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Toyota Prius c safe?
The Prius c scored four-star ratings in overall government safety testing.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
Nine airbags are standard, including front and side impact airbags, a driver’s knee airbag, and front and rear side curtain airbags. The safety content also points out a key caveat: the car’s sight lines and lack of a backup camera can make low objects behind the vehicle harder to spot.
That means you should pay close attention to rear visibility and parking behavior when you test-drive one. If you are comparing cars in this class, the Prius c’s safety story is solid on airbags and government testing, but the visibility compromise is worth checking in person.
Should I buy a 2014 Toyota Prius c or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 26.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 2.37% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The expert review highlights the Prius c as a smaller, more city-friendly hybrid with strong technology and a clear value-oriented mission.
The bottom line: If you want a compact hybrid that leans into city use, efficiency, and a lower entry price than many Prius-branded alternatives, the 2014 is a sensible target. If you are especially price-sensitive, focus on the best-maintained examples and use the softer market to negotiate; if you want more space or a more upscale feel, you may want to keep comparing nearby years and alternatives.
