CarGurus Analysis: 2014 Dodge Charger
overall

Summary
With 570 currently listed for sale and an average price of $10,480.00, 22.5% of 2014 Dodge Chargers for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2014 Dodge Charger 4.78 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.
47.4% of 2014 Charger models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2014 Dodge Charger stands out for blending full-size muscle-car presence with everyday practicality. Its big, red, hulking shape makes a strong first impression, yet the car is described as a far more sophisticated machine than its retro shell may suggest. It also wears a name and silhouette that recall the classic Charger while adding four doors, which gives it a distinctive mix of style and usability.
Under the hood, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 is described as an award-winning powerplant that moves the 3,964-pound Charger quite quickly. In this form, the car reaches 0-60 in 6.5 seconds, which helps explain why it can feel genuinely quick even without stepping up to the more powerful V8 versions. That said, the V6 model is still noted as not quite as powerful as the R/T and SRT variants, so buyers looking at this version get strong performance without the full upper-end muscle of the range.
Owners also praise the 2014 Dodge Charger for its power and performance, along with a smooth ride. Features such as the sunroof, heated seats, and Beats audio are recurring favorites. A potential drawback is fuel economy, which some reviewers see as a downside.

I purchased a 2014 RT Plus AWD Charger with 67,000 miles. It required one $800 repair to a part of the engine performed expertly by AAMCO (forget about bringing it to the dealership to be repaired; youll only be ripped off.) The car served me very well until an accident at 82,000 miles without any other repairs. Ive seen Chargers for sale with up to 152,000 miles and still going. Its a great car if you can find one starting around the 70,000/80,000 mile range or less!

The car has great low mileage. The baby has some nicks and scratches, but nothing surprising for a 2014. The engine and undercarriage looks like show room material. After searching different web sites, I found this one to be the best value. It would be nice to have a sun roof, but I am pleased with its features. I would compare the 8 speed to a mustang or camaro.

Great car! I had the 2014 r/t All wheel drive. If I had it to do over, I never would’ve gotten rid of it. The only thing I was going to do is get leather done on the seats. Car always ran great and was very fun to drive.

Is the 2014 Dodge Charger a good car?
Yes — the 4.78/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the expert rating is 8.33/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Form and function, and Technology.
Owners consistently praise the Charger’s power and performance, smooth ride, and standout features like the sunroof, heated seats, and Beats audio. The overview also frames it as a full-size sedan that blends muscle-car presence with everyday practicality, which helps explain why it appeals to both driving enthusiasts and shoppers who still need usable back seats.
With 23.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively without feeling rushed.
Is the 2014 Dodge Charger reliable?
Owners rate it 4.78/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner summary points to a car that feels dependable in the ways that matter to shoppers who want power without giving up everyday usability. It also highlights strong performance and a smooth ride, which usually matters when you’re trying to count on a car day after day.
The expert notes reinforce that this is a sophisticated machine rather than just a style piece, and the V6/8-speed setup is described as surprisingly quick and well matched to the car’s size. The cost-effectiveness discussion also suggests the Charger is built as a long-haul lifestyle choice, with LED lighting that should hold up well over time.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that a performance-oriented Charger can be more expensive to live with if prior maintenance or wear has been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Dodge Charger?
At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Focus on body condition, electronics, and any signs that the car’s performance features or safety systems have been overused or poorly repaired. Because this model can attract enthusiastic owners, condition matters as much as mileage.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SE includes standard LED taillights, a power 6-way driver’s seat, remote keyless entry, three power accessory outlets, and a USB audio auxiliary jack. The SXT adds more equipment and pushes the car’s style further, while the R/T and SRT move up to V8 power.
- Powertrain: The base V6 with an 8-speed automatic is described as surprisingly quick, with 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds. V8 options add much more power, but they also bring a fuel-economy penalty.
- Safety package: Available driver-assistance features include lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and rear cross-path warning. The standard safety equipment includes airbags and traction control, while some advanced features are available rather than standard.
- Infotainment: The available Uconnect system is presented as easy to use, and the car can connect to a smartphone’s music library via Bluetooth. The available Beats audio system is also a highlight.
- Fuel efficiency: The base rear-wheel-drive V6 with the 5-speed automatic returns 18 mpg city and 27 highway. V6 models with the 8-speed automatic improve to 19/31, while the all-wheel-drive V6 with the 8-speed is estimated at 18/27.
Which 2014 Dodge Charger trim should I buy?
The 2014 Dodge Charger is offered in 4 trim levels: SE, SXT, R/T, SRT.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The SE gives you the Charger’s core style and basic equipment, but it lacks the richer feature set and stronger performance of the higher trims.
- Sweet-spot trim: The SXT is the best all-around pick if you want the Charger’s personality with the V6’s quick acceleration and a more complete everyday experience.
- Premium/top trim: The SRT is the most powerful and most expensive choice, with the 392-cubic-inch V8 and the most serious performance focus.
The safety package is available with lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and rear cross-path warning.

- Clean inventory: 49.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $10,435.86, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Dodge Charger’s resale value?
The current average of $10,432 sits slightly below last year's $11,524.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point if you plan to keep the car for a while. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained.
Because this model has strong enthusiast appeal, clean examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than rougher ones. The market also tends to reward cars that still feel special, and this Charger’s styling and performance help support that.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2014 Dodge Charger safe?
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Charger comes with standard airbags and traction control, and it also offers lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision avoidance, and rear cross-path warning. The backup camera is a standout, with a large, crisp display that should make parking and reversing easier.
One caveat is that the forward warning system can be oversensitive, so you may need to get used to its alerts. That means safety tech is a strength here, but you should still test the systems during your inspection to make sure they behave the way you expect.
Should I buy a 2014 Dodge Charger or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 23.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 49.6% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.48% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2014 combines strong V6 performance with everyday practicality and a sophisticated, full-size muscle-car feel.
Consider the 2015 if:
- At $13,045, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,432 average.
- It brings a sleeker front end and a brighter rear end for a more aggressive look.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter starting point because it’s cheaper and still delivers the Charger’s core appeal. If styling updates matter more to you than price, the 2015 is the cleaner alternative, but you’ll pay more for it.
