Overview

A "high-level tripster" that "bucked the worst" weather were among the accolades from car reviewers for BMW's debut version of the X3. Built as an entry-level version alternative to BMW's popular X5 line of SUV's, the X3 was an immediate hit, despite some flaws.
Drivers caution new buyers to stay away from a $1,500 sports package - the stubby-sidewall tires included in the package actually create a rougher ride than the standard configurations. Drivers were also a bit disappointed with the X3's shifting, which is normally an unparalleled point of pride for BMW owners and designers.

the steering is way too light and the electronic throttle freaks me out. the seats can be a bit uncomfortable for long drives, but they do provide good grip and feel for the driver. the sports package is a bit rough with the factory 18" wheels but steers very diectly. the engine is a bit too "top end" for my liking, as you have to go half throttle or more to get it moving

First time in a BMW and I will continue to buy them. Love how it handles, it is just a really great car to drive. I can go 90 miles an hour before I realize it-it rides that smooth. I feel good driving this car and I have owned my share of cars.

The BMW brand was in my mind over-rated until we bought this puppy. I also had a 2000 Mercedes ML 320 - which the BMW X3 was built to compete against. The BMW was as powerful and much smoother on the road. My ML was sturdy and dependable, but not as nicely appointed. Both are great highway cars, but my next car will be a BMW!

Solid build, first BMW we have had. Rides a little rough and not for someone looking for a plush ride. Great handling and good ergonomics. Interior is not particularly high end but well constructed. We liked it enough that we just bought a second one, the 3.0 this time.
