Overview
The Toyota Camry was once again completely redesigned for 1997, with some big changes for the model as a whole. The body was redesigned to be larger, with a more angular profile and was available in new colors. The interior was redesigned as well, offering longer seats, a new dash and many small new convenience features, such as extra cubbies and larger cup holders. Most notably, Toyota dropped the wagon and the coupe for the 1997 Camry, leaving only the sedan. Toyota also shuffled the trim levels, renaming the base DX the CE and keeping the midlevel LE and luxury XLE. The sporty SE went the way of the coupe and the wagon.
The 1997 Toyota Camry got a bigger engine, with the four-cylinder producing 133 horsepower and the V6 194 horsepower. Toyota also increased the list of available safety features, making ABS standard in all models except the four-cylinder CE. Toyota also improved the bumpers in the 1997 Camry. Fuel economy is about 20 to 30 mpg, depending on the engine.
In 1997, the Toyota Camry became the best selling car that year, beginning a streak of topping the list that continues today. Once again, major complaints about the 1997 Toyota Camry include a lack of power, especially with the four-cylinder engine, and a bland, conservative look. Great car! Gets good gas mileage for its size, about 25mpg. Very comfortable, far better ride and seat comfort than comparable cars I have driven. Nearly as good a ride as my mom's Buick. It has been extremely reliable. It was purchased with 140k miles, and now has 164k, with no problems period. Just change the oil and go. The engine is still so smooth and quiet it can hardly be noticed when running. What it's not is a performance car. While it has plenty of power to easily merge on the highway or pass on a two lane road, it is by no means a thrilling ride. Don't expect to get an ear to ear grin when you start the engine, or hit the curves on hilly road. But do expect to be impressed when used as designed: as a family commuter to get from point A to point B in comfort. Overall I would wholeheartedly recommend this car for someone needing a simple reliable commuter.

It is a good family car, it ran good, the person we sold it to just took it to the junk yard last year. It wasnt very good looking, but it was built good, It had the best gas milage cant beat it. It is really not fun to drive.

Very Fast car, the best engine ever, whit almost 260,000 miles and no problems, the best performance y ever drive, with a 3,000 cc V6 engine this car is really fun to drive and very comfortable seats for a sedan
