What is a Speed Sensor and what should repair cost be?
My check engine light came on and an O'Reilly Auto diagnostic indicated that my 1997 Toyota Camry has a "Speed Sensor" problem. How serious is that? How much should that cost? Local shop says diagnostic to find which speed sensor is faulty could cost about $120 plus tax. O'Reilly's parts average about $200 (depending on which speed sensor) and then there's the cost of labor. The local shop said it could be a several hour fix (about $150/hr). Are these best prices? What sort of safety issue does this create? I need to decide if it's time to let my 1997 sail to the great junk yard in the sky. :( TIA
