Overview

The 1978 Toyota Corolla was virtually unchanged from the previous year's model, perhaps because it was due for a redesign the following year.
The 1978 Toyota Corolla came in many body styles with several trim levels. The two- and four-door sedan came as a standard, DX or E5. The hardtop coupe and sports coupe came as a standard or a SR5. The wagon came as a standard or DX. The liftback came as a standard and SR5. All came with a 1.6-liter engine, except for the two-door sedan, which came with a 1.2-liter engine.
There are still drivers of the 1978 Toyota Corolla on the road today. One driver claims to have put 600,000 miles on his '78 Corolla. The biggest complaint drivers have is that the cars tend to get rusty.

I like the light feel of the steering. The engine is a 1300 but has a nice crisp sound to it. RWD make's the car real fun to go dirt drifting. seemingly unbreakable motor and gearbox. done over 250k with no trouble. I dislike the availability of parts for this car, panels are not an issue, but the little detailed items such as interior are hard to come by. As it is getting older it is getting more and more rare. Great car to look at. It is a Coupe my model. 4 speed manual. great fun to drive am always smiling even in the event of road rage. Mileage is great being a 4 cylinder, 400 kilometers to a tank of 40 liters. Maintenance not much required, just your usual service. which you can do your self because the mechanics are so simple to work on. you cant stuff up hehe

These Corollas were the very definition of cheap, RELIABLE, and economical transportation. This was the beginning of the end of Detroit dominance.

This is an amazing car, i had the 1600 sprinter that came out with thwin carburetors. The handling is absolutely amazing. Being such an old car it has its ups and downs. Should i get another one i would not sell or swop it even if you wanted to give me a SL55
