Car won't start the first time I put the key in and press the clutch and brake.

Asked by Ethan Feb 18, 2019 at 11:34 PM about the 2004 Pontiac Vibe Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Whenever I put the key in, and press the clutch and the
brake pedal the car won't start until I have taken the key out
and press the brake and clutch and put the key in several
times. Why is it doing this and how do I fix it?

You have the infamous GM ignition key problem. Here's a link that might help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIymmCzCijI

there is also a possibility that the floor mat is keeping you from being able to push the clutch peddle down far enough to make the neutral safety switch happy. try removing the floor mat and see if that makes a difference. that is a problem that is more common when the weather is cold for sure. (not sure how cold it gets where you are but i've pulled out the floor mat completely sometimes when it's -25F or colder) good luck
