I have a 1999 Ford E150 Conversion Van with a Handicapped lift. On Road trips my right rear Axle bearing has gone out 3 times. I want to replace the rear end with a 2000 E350 rear end. Can I do this?

Question type: Car Customization

My oldest daughter has Cerebral Palsy.  That is why I have this type van. I
suspect the weight of the vehicle when loaded is over its gross weight causing
the right rear axle bearing problem.  The lift is on the right side of the vehicle. I
would like to take the existing axle and leaf spring assembly off and replace
with the F350 rear end with springs. I would also replace the front spindles
with larger break rotors alleviating a problem with breaking accommodating
the increased weight.  Is this possible? Are the frames the same?

Thank you for your help,

Walter

The rear axle conversion is do-able but I think the front spindle conversion could be a problem. You can upgrade the brake calipers and rotors but you might need larger wheels to clear the bigger rotors. What axle do you have? The heavier 1/2 ton axle (9.75") from a F150 4x4 might be a good choice.

It should work just fine the f series and e series are pretty much the same except the obvious one has van body and other has pickup body just make sure it's within 2-3 years of your van
