Are you asking us to second-guess the mechanic? Parts and metal bits in the pan are a sign something is failing. You can chance it and keep driving until the tranny brakes down, at which point it will need to be rebuilt or replaced, OR you can pull the valve body and see where the metal bits are coming from and try to save the tranny. Neither option is cheap, if tranny has a lot of miles on it, may want to plan on swapping it out when it does finally die and budgeting for that eventuality.
