Transmission fluid leak

Asked by Gotchahah Aug 01, 2019 at 04:04 PM about the 2006 Ford E-Series E-250 Cargo Van

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Leaking transmission fluid from this crack. Trying to find
out what this part is called so I can change it. It's
attached to the [drive shaft?] It's towards the front of the
van, behind the transmission pan, a couple/few feet
behind the front axle.
   I'm pretty good with tools/mechanical stuff bc I'm a
plumber, but I'm hoping I don't have to drop the
transmission or anything crazy.
If anyone could tell me what this part is called that
would be really helpful I think. THANK YOU in advance

That looks like the transmission housing. That area is called the tailshaft. Can that rear housing be removed from the rest of the transmission housing? If not, you are replacing the whole transmission.

Yes. The tailshaft can be replaced depending on the type of transmission it is.
