have a 2000 Nissan Altima,  service engine

Service engine light on indicates a problem. All cars develop them. There are stored codes in the system that can be read using a special OBDii scanner. Most local auto parts stores can do this for free. Post the 4 digit codes back here for further help. Without the codes you'd only be guessing why the car is stalling.
