Eyesight system

Asked by Guru1N8NS Sep 14, 2019 at 07:43 PM about the 2019 Subaru Forester 2.5i Touring AWD with EyeSight Package

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is there any issue with using a regular windshield sunscreen with the eyesight system? The sunscreen that came with our '19 Forester Touring has a giant cut out at the mirror and doesn't go all the way to the edges

By Sunscreen I am assuming you mean the reflective shield to use when parked. If so - the reason why your sunscreen has a cut out at the mirror is the cameras are very sensitive and cannot be touched or dirty. I would assume that this is the reason.

Can't blame you for thinking I might not have read the owners manual as many don't. However the manual is not very helpful other than to say 'don't put your big, fat, greasy fingers on the camera lens'. Was concerned that just blocking the "eyesight" might cause a programing problem in it's little brain. Went to the local dealer and spoke the service manager who said that was not a problem and made me promise to keep my finger off the lenses. He then showed me a roll up windshield sunscreen designed for my specific car that covered the whole windshield. While it probably isn't bullet proof like the factory version it only weighs about a quarter as much and is much easier to store without smacking a passenger in the head.
