Can Catalatic Converter cuase Limp Mode in Nissan Altima?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima S 2.5 4D, I replaced the
alternator, battery and battery terminal (at a licensed
shop) and a ton of other stuff it was a fixer upper, all
that was left was my catalytic converter and I had a
exuaghst manifold leak cuasing my check engine light
to stay on, was advised it would continue to run for a
few months but needed attention.
A month goes by it got cold out and my heater doesnt
blow heat till the engine is warm on the highway, thats
it no other issues popped up, ac worked perfect..ect
was driving fine (its been a month sense heat went
out) till half way to work a week ago and all the sudden
the entire cars lights, radio, dash..ect all turned off and
back on just that one flicker and I could no longer feel
the power to accelerate anymore it felt like the pedal
still worked but it was resisting the acceleration, the
radio showed the time when it came back on but no
longer made noise, I threw it into Nuteral and coasted
off the highway and had to try to keep it going till I got
to a parking lot, it moved so slow I felt so embarrassed
becuase I had to go through a small intersection to get
to the parking lot it went max 12mph, we let it set for a
few days and than just had it towed to my home, they
parked it facing the wrong way on the street so I
hopped into it, turned it on and threw it into gear, I had
to almost push the gas completely in to get it to go
2mph couldn't leave 1st gear and had to litrally pull it
sideways across the entire street, reverse it just as
slow and than throw it back into 1st gear in which
when I did it was starting to not be able to go 2mph
and I imidiatly threw it into Nuteral to let it slowly coast
forward so I could park it facing the correct way. I
already put $2200 into this car, is it worth fixing? Or
should I give up on it? Can my known issues with the
catalytic converter cuase rhe issue? What do you think
it could be?

An exhaust leak will mess with the O2 sensors and cause fits with the computer. A clogged catalytic converter will do the same and much more. If unaddressed for an extended time, either could initiate the Limp Mode. Beyond that, the car's eighteen years old and likely not reliable no matter how much money you waste on this thing, and the car's not worth much more than you've already spent.
