Stalling and Starting

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a new 2019 Nissan Versa 3 months ago and it's been stalling on
first start up. I'll turn it on and it just shuts off in about 3 seconds. I turn it on
again and it stays on. And it does this randomly, not everyday. I have taken it
back to the dealership 3 times and it just keeps doing it when I get it back.
They replaced a sensor part but that didn't work. Anyone have any idea?
These are mechanics looking at my vehicle and they can't figure it out? Did I
get a lemon?

Oh...and these are the lights that are on after it happens. Not sure why I'm asking cause even if I get an answer...I know nothing about fixing cars.

Good thing you have a warranty. Document the issues and keep all dealer paperwork. You may have a Lemon car claim.

The Versa is actually a solid car, there's no history of lemons among them, it's probably an isolated incident. Unless the problem exists when you bring it to the dealer, it's near impossible for them to recreate the issue to properly diagnose the issue. You'll need a much more serious ongoing issue for this to be near a Lemon Car claim. You can try another dealer, but if it's a Nissan, Nissan dealer is better.

I have all the paperwork that's been done on it so far. I contacted the salesman, emails for records sake, and it's being looked into now. I also forgot to mention when I was given the keys to drive off the lot after purchase, the car wouldn't start. I sat there for 5 min trying to figure out if I was doing something wrong. Turns out I had a third key that only unlocks and locks the doors, which they were so puzzled by because my car shouldn't have a third key to begin with. They figured there was maybe a programming issue? I have no idea if this could have affected something to cause these random stalls.

This is not an isolated case, I have a friend who went through the same thing with their Versa...two garages and a Nissan dealer and no mechanic could figure it out. Trade it in quick and demand that you don't lose to depreciation...you won't get anywhere with the Lemon law if your in Ontario as there really isn't one.
