Probably not major and just a gasket, or the pan could be cracked or the oil filter is loose.. But it can be major if you don't keep it filled with oil until you can fix the leak, overheating the engine and damaging it.

Spray clean off your engine so you can tell & pinpoint where the oil leak is coming from. Then fix it or take it somewhere & show them.

I've got a 95 Montero SR I purchased new. When I have the problem, it is always the oil sending unit next to the oil filter. This may be your problem. It also is not that hart to replace yourself. Hope this helps. C.H.
