94 Mitsi 3000 GT SL won't start
Hi! Ok so I have a 94 Mitsubishi 3000 GT SL. She was sitting in my parents garage since
about 2013. I have replaced fluel pump and battery, drained gas tank, and put a quarter of
a tank of fresh gas in her. Tried starting her up but she won't start unless I use starter
fluid. In which case, she starts and then just putters off. What might be my problem???
Oh! And she only has 94k miles on her.
Check power to fuel injectors.
Check the fuel pressure, fuel pump may be bad,you are getting fire, not fuel,
There are 2 fuel pump relays the first on the passger side console.
The second under the hood.
Good info michael,
Thanks man. I would be afraid to own a stealth / 300gt due to reliablity issues, but I have always love the style of these cars. My mom bought one when they first came out in 91 and it was an amazing car for its time.
Agree,my buddy has one, they are sharp, but sharp come,s with a price of up keeping it,they were not built for reliabilty.
Yeah my mom bought this car brand new. Never had a problem with it. Always had all service done at the dealership. Now that its mine, of course there has to be problem after problem lol. But thank you all so much! I am going to test fuel pump, pressure, and relay tomorrow. Will keep you posted!
Good luck, let us know how it goes.
Sounds like they have you on the right track. Don't give up on her. These are great little cars. Also check harness at the fuel pump for both power and ground while the engine is being turned over. If none there then you possibly have a cam/crank position sensor, ecu, relay or blown fuse issue. Does your check engine light come on for a few seconds when you turn the key to the run position? If not check for blown fuse or some other reason your ecu not getting power. Here's our babies. Lol. Red one is 91 sl.(sons car) black one is 91 vr4 ( mine)
Also there is a test wire behind the passenger strut tower that you can hook 12v to to make the fuel pump run to test it. This by passes all sensors, relays and ecu. If does not come on using test wire then check your harness connections. Might even be a new but bad pump.
