Could be anything i'm putting my money on either the turbo or an oil leak. Its possible that oil is leaking into the chambers of the spark plug wells due to bad sealing which will cause undetectable misfires, smoking and a good deal of lag. Might be the reason. Check along each components starting at the intake and go along every line in the system. The key is observation. Check for any cuts, leaks or problems in any piping or tubing. If you can't detect anything turn the car on and recheck it again. I helped a friend find a problem simply by doing this and found a nice gash in his radiator hose.
