Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My sons mercury cougar was racing in idle, rpm's would go up. We were  told
to replace the idle air control valve, which we did. It is still doing it and
sometimes at a stop it will die, it didn't seem to help. What is causing it now?

when you changed the idel air control, you should unhook battery for 10 min, then hook it back up so computer can relearn idle.

Did you clean the throttle body when you replaced the IAC? Did you disconnect the battery for a few min after part was replaced?

Thanks guys, tried all but it ended up being the idle sensor, which has simalar symptoms. Anther $40-$50 part, easy to replace. Cars running great.
