Replacing 1999 Mercury Cougar V6 2.5L air intake valve

Asked by Joeshmo2152 Jul 18, 2012 at 02:54 PM about the 1999 Mercury Cougar V6 Hatchback FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm trying to replace my 99 mercury cougar's air intake valve.  The only problem is, I cant find the same
kind out there on the internet to replace it with.  All the new ones are aluminum, and have a cylindrical air
filter.  The kind I have is a plastic, black, cylindrical air intake valve that connects the air filter to the
engine.  And the air filter I have is rectangular.  Where can I find this same kind of air intake valve?  And if
I cannot, will it work to use the new ones I am finding?

If that assembly is the only thing you can find I would think it's an improved model. Try your local parts house and see what they offer.
