My 2003 Mountaineer V-8 AWD SUV, transmission gear shifter will jump into neutral whether I drive on a bumpy or smooth road way, why?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Has been jumping out of gear for almost 2 years. This is an automatic. Sometimes when I put it into reverse, I have to give it gas to go into reverse. Otherwise, this piece of junk will just sit there in reverse and not go anywhere.
