O/D off light flashes

Just brought 2001 Mazda Tribute . The O/D off
light flashed. Notice the wire is cut at base of the
gear shifter. Would this be why the O/D off light
flashes?

Not 100% sure, but I would have it looked at, nothing should be cut or disconnected.. Does your Tribute shift into overdrive or 4th gear? A flashing O/D light indicates a fault. Have the SUV scanned for the transmission codes.

Just bought a 2002 tribute with same prob.. O/D light flashing when driving.. Think the car stops at 3rd gear.. Automatic ..Can I keep driving and what can happen if I do ? Thanks
