Can a bad A/C compressor cause jerkiness in the engine when the A/C is turned off?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My wife had a fuel injector cleaning done and engine coolant flush at a Goodyear.  We got it back and it didn't seem right and would rev while idling.  We took it back and they said it was due to a bad A/C compressor.  We hadn't noticed anything before they worked on it and it does it whether the A/C is on or off.

wouldn't the belt go SQUEEL first if the compressor was on it's way to locking up...of course it cannot run in this condition for long because the heat will make it catch fire...you'd think overlord protection would have tripped leaving us with a dead fuse first...Get a new/rebuilt compressor (they'll be doing regular a/c service at that time too) and things will work out OK~

even if the compressor itself is doin' it's job, the a/c clutch is having trouble disengaging...a clever mechanic can service just this troubled component, but mechanics these days are parts-replacers~

could be a component service belt (used to be V-belt) out of alignment too---you might start 'er up and examine the behavior of your flat belt...is it swimmin' to one side...is your tensioner keepin' it on target?....be a mechanic once in a while~!

Thanks for the quick reply judge_roy. I will have to check the belts when she gets home. About the original question, can an A/C component cause the engine to rev while idling and have an combo of rev/idling when the A/C isn't even turned on?

the question of whether or not the A/C is turned on is a "soft" activation, in other words will not overpressure itself and will remain "off"...as far as comin' on? the defrost setting might turn it on?...aside from that would look at the control panel to see if it is all that~

myeah, could be, rabbit...is just wrong to not listen to you when you are asking this machine to do something for you. No one likes to get outsmarted, especially by a dumb car....I'm thinking sticking relay, now that you've mentioned the propensity to belabor the engine, even when switched to off....like, does the compressor keep trying to compress refrigerant when switched to off?.....thinking a relay...will investigate what this looks like and how many are goin' off the shelves at the parts hauses~

nifty little a/c control scematic...can't read such a small sampling, but CarGurus has the imaging processing power!! YAY HENRY and Co. you're helping us to solve problems more readily!

here's a groovy little isometric view of your climate control system...yippie draftsmen...(in a former life)~ of course there is no reference to what the item numbers mean, same as that relay drawing, pretty specific electrically, but identifying whatinnahell that is exacly is the challenge...helps if it's there in front of you~
