Coolant leak?

Asked by Mar 17, 2017 at 03:04 PM about the 2005 Mazda MPV ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2005 Mazda MPV (130K miles) is leaking coolant somewhere but I
have no idea where!  Went throught an entire reservoir in 2 weeks time
with minimal driving.  Weird thing is there is absolutely nothing on my
driveway to indicate a leak!  Oil looks perfectly fine, so no problems there.
Repair place tried to tell me it was water pump, but thinking there would be
an external leak on my driveway if that were the problem.  Any ideas?

Could be any part of the cooling system. No need to guess and replace parts. Only way to know at this point is to perform a coolant pressure test, that way when the system is pressurized, it will leak at the spot your trying to find. You can rent the tool at your local auto parts store or have your mechanic do it. Did you check the transmission fluid? The transmission cooler can leak, and coolant and trans fluid can mix. But probably not your issue if your going through coolant very fast. Another thought would be a leaking radiator and the coolant is evaporating before it hits the ground.

My 2006 Mazda mpv was loosing coolant and after exhaustive checking, it was the radiator cap , although it looked perfect I finally realized that each time I checked it the reservoir didn't have the pressure that you would expect while taking it off. Hope this helps someone. Frank
