when changing the spark plugs do I have to take the intake ofF, or work around it?

no you should be able to work around it.

The front 3 you don't, the back you have to remove the cowl in the back, but when I did mine, my hnads weren't small enough, so I ended up taking off the upper intake. http://www.taurusclub.com/wiki/index.php?title=Changing_the_Spark_Plugs_on_the_Duratec
