is the crank bolt breaking also or just the alinment pin on the crank gear? the crank bolt is a one time use only bolt with a very specific torque.

how have you fixed it so far? has the crank gear or pulley been replaced yet or are you just trying to replace the pin?

unfortunatley thats probably the cause of the continued breaking. the pin is made into the crank gear and not available seperate from the manufacturer. ive heard of replacing the pin with a roll pin from the hardware store, but it doesnt sound like this will work for you.id replace the crank gear and probably the crank pulley also. if it hasnt been done yet it would also be a good idea to replace the timing belt if its past 60,000 miles

replaced with a solid roll pin and replaced it all pin, belt, and later gear, still breaks the pins, a good stick welder provide a great weld to the belt sprocket ain`t got to worry about it coming loose again until I get rid of it, never buy a kia again advise no one to

Ronmac1117....I definitely learned me lesson. Will never purchase a kia again. Thanks for the help.

Kia sorento 2004 model, very worst vehicle, not only crankshaft problem (which is the worst one), all other parts worst. I lost more money than the cost of vehicle.

I need to know if the crank gear is supposed to come off with the harmonic balancer,, cause when I try to take it off the crank gear wants to come with it

Buy a new sprocket and harmonic balancer, remove the roll pin carefully on the new sprocket and then carefully line it up with new H-balancer, using a drill press with an 8" x 1/4"diam. tungsten carbide bit: drill through both carefully about 1/2" depth through the sprocket; cut a solid piece a titanium drill bit to use as a replacement "pin"...Note: MAKE SURE THE PIN IS PLUSH AT FLAT SURFACE OF THE H-BALANCER.
