2005 Kia Spectra 5 - stalls/dies while idling at stop signs/lights.

Asked by dkonieczny Aug 26, 2015 at 09:55 AM about the 2005 Kia Spectra Spectra5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car acted like alternator/electrical problems.  Alternator replaced 3 times, then
battery, then plugs/wires.  Still has the problem.  Then dealer said needs Kia
not aftermarket alternator - replaced at their expense.  Still died out and had to
be jumped 5x on way to work!!!! Earlier their scan revealed no codes!
Extremely frustrated.  Told by one mechanic to do system reboot.  Dealer said
not on this model only 2007 and newer.  Does anyone have a suggestion? or
help in getting to the precipice of a large cliff to push it off???? Please advise...

Do you no what the voltage is that the alternator is changing at ? It should be 14 volts. If charging correctly its either the battery or a blown alternator fuse.

Voltage alternator is 14.0 at battery only 13.5. They said that it should not affect anything now, but could cause problem in the future. They were wrong, it died again and had the multiple jumps to make it to work. Where is the altenator fuse? Someone has suggested the on-board computer or a chip perhaps? Please advise... this is very frustrating. Do you have a suggestion on what I should do with the dealer? Go higher up?

If alternator is changing correctly and the battery is good the only thing I can think of is the Toque Converter Clutch Solinoid is bad that is the only thing I know of that would shut vehicle off coming to a stop or complete stop.

Mine was the fuel pump. Replaced it and now runs ok. Still dies after filling tank.

@Onemoretag, that is the same behavior as mine. But it doesn't happen everytime, just when I go to specific gas stations.

Per Kia, they finally fixed my problem (car shuts off when stopped). Charcoal filter needs to be replaced. When gas gets clogged up in the filter it shuts off to keep gas from going into engine.
