Ignition problems

Asked by Scat_1295 Mar 08, 2017 at 12:32 PM about the 1966 Chevrolet C/K 10 RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Had a starter interference problem causing starter
to drag and overheat wiring to starter.
I replaced the igniton (battery side) purple wire and
starter solinoid brown wire.
Brought them directly to ignition switch,  and
connected them on the appropriate positions on
switch.
I now have starter engaging in all key positions
except start position.  And truck will run with key
held in start position.
If anyone can tell me what I did wrong it would be
greatly appreciated.

It will be ground probably are you have most likely a wire cross some where between the switch to the starter. i feel like it will be a ground opratied on the hot side. .I believe that there is a ground wire connect to the hot side were between the starter and the switch. are battery is hooked up on the ground side of the starter. Iif you can give me a a little bit I will check some thing out like reach search an find out. Most likely switch to the battery to the starter is hook up with the ground side for hot side. look at that point and let me know what you find. Test light is all you need to check it out. Check the ground from each point if lights it up that will be your problem. thanks David Bigcountry Wardlaw
